TSS discrepancy-- computer vs charts?

 So, I'm a little confused.

Basically, I had a horrible, and I do mean HORRIBLE run at Oceanside half this weekend... much of which was due to some GI distress of unknown cause that made me barf for awhile, but also, my legs felt like crap.

This may be because I haven't really been running much, but I was also trying to analyze the bike a little more to make sure I hadn't blown up there, and noticed that that TSS that my computer calculated off my Joule was 219, even though by magic charts my wattage was right where it should have been at 80%. I will admit that my NP was a little higher...

I'm not using WKO because I'm on a mac, just using Power Agent.. maybe I have something set wrong?

I'm sure this has come up somewhere before but I can't find it... if you can please point me there.

  • Send me the file and I'll look at home, if you want.

Just FYI - TSS using normalized power (IF calc), not average power. Are you able to provide VI?

How long were on on the bike?

  • Thanks Hayes I'll send you the file.
  • Shannon - Double check that the FTP poweragent and Joule are using are the same, and also the same as the FTP you were assuming for the race. A TSS of 219 sounds far too high for a 70.3, and could certainly ruin your day on the run. And, as Hayes says, a VI much above, say, 1.08 could also disrupt things, even if the TSS were lower.

Coach P does power file analyses, thread called "Crucible", if you want him to analyse what might have gone wrong.

  • Thanks for the input Al- Hayes was awesome enough to check out my power file for me, pretty much confirming I worked too hard. Oops.
