Sharp knee pain

Experienced a sharp pain in front, below my knee cap, when I was walking up the stairs tonight.  It was a sharp pain that only lased a quick second but it felt like a knife into the area just under/below my knee cap (that soft area between cap and knee bone).

Not sure but most likey my knee was in front of my foot (meaning knee was furthest forward of my body) when I walked up.  Not sure if that is relevant but wanted to mention it.

Any ideas of what it may be and suggestions on how to 'properly' climb stairs to prevent from happening again?

Thanks

  • I've been experiencing something similar, maybe same thing. I feel it as a sharp pain whenever I bend my knee to a tight angle, esp if I also twist my leg a bit (such as to tie my shoe) In my case, I had a slice of the patella tendon cut out to be grafted into my ACL during surgery in 1999 and am guessing that the tendon's getting cranky, probably after a few times in the last month where I had to cut my stride or change direction abruptly while running my intervals to avoid loosely leashed darting dogs. I feel it as more of a dull pain if I put a heavy tension on the bike so am avoiding that. Also feel it a bit when running faster intervals, but again more dull than sharp. I've been icing and elevating the knee at work, but not sure if anything else I ought to be doing.

I would use one of those stair lift machines, why take a chance
