Just sent you a PM Keith. Room is all booked for Thur , Fri and Sat. nights.
All, I know its not on the schedule but Does anyone swim at the camp? Is it Open to swim? Is it safe?
Nate, there wiill be a lot of people swimming that weekend. It is extremely safe and one on the most beautiful and calm open water swims you will ever do.
Sounds like I will do some swimming very cool...I was worried about boats and no one else around...Just a little cautious/warry of open water swimming without much supervision...
not sure how big a deal it is that there is an organized marathon or 1/2 that Sunday...I was hoping to get to run a portion of the Ironman course that Sunday. The late entry fee is $85...
Nate I wouldn't worry about signing up. Let's just wake up when we want and hit the roads for a run.
@Bob, sounds good to me...I'm thinking by Sunday I will be pretty fried...your plan sounds good.
There are tons of huge gators and leeches in Lake Placid...so its a good thing that we will be swimming in Mirror Lake. Oh and there will be plenty of silly people swimming in the lake. There will be buoy's out for the canoe/kayak race series which are pretty much the same as the one used on race day. The famous cable will be there to follow. There are no power boats allowed on mirror lake and it is unlikely that you will be killed by a canoe so all set there. Anything else?
Only issue I see with running the half marathon is that I will likely not be able to walk by then.
My only real concern on my local lake is getting hit by a boat or jetski...... Yikes!
Two questions: Never done this camp before
1. When is the best time to try and sneak in an OWS? Its not on the EN Rally schedule.
2. This is a stupid question: Do I need to memorize the bike course prior to attending? Is the course marked? I know its not that complicated but I would hate to end up in CT because i missed that left turn...
Nate, the course is a big circle and easy to navigate. There are a 1/2 dozen turns which are easy to memorize, but that being said there will be plenty of people up there training when we are there so just follow the other TT bikes.
There will be plenty of free time to get your swims in. May want to do after your long bikes after some rest and nourishment, this will also be good for legs in regards to recovery. Plus with the lake temp. ( currently 49) it will be like taking an ice bath.
If you are nervous about missing a turn laminate a small peice of paper with the directions and throw in your bento box.
I also sent out the final admin email this AM, so please check your inboxes and see you soon!
