Bib shorts for HIM???
Hi all. I’m thinking of doing my HIM in cycling bib shorts. Currently I do all bricks (including a RR and the Big tri day) wearing them with no issues on the run. However, I have never worn them swimming and was not sure how the chamois would be after getting wet. I was planning on swimming in them to see but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts. BTW I have tri shorts but the bib just seems to feel a lot more comfortable not just on the bike but also on the run.
I was also wondering about wearing the EN tri top on the swim. How much will the back pocket drag? The top fits me like a glove and is very comfortable but I think it would be hard to put on wet. Do ya’ll recommend wearing something over the tri top and if so what? I’ve seen the post on the Desoto 78 degree Swim Top but they only make a large and I need at least an XXL from Desoto. I’ve read somewhere about swimming in a "compression" shirt so its easier to take off. Any thoughts?
Thanks for any help I’m trying to get what I’m wearing down so I can start doing some specific transition practice on Saturdays.

Something to consider. www.desotosport.com/merchant.mvc+Sc...ode=mforza
Swimming in the tri top will be fine. They are designed for it.
Also, consider your goals. If you're fine taking a couple minutes to change shorts in T1 or T2 then go for it. Another thing to think about is training more in tri shorts to acclimate to them. That's what I did and it's worked well.
When I did IMFL (think choppy rough road for the 28 mile out and back in the forest) I swam in the tri suit and pulled on a good pair of bike shorts over the top for the bike. Pulled em off quick in t2 for the run. Worked great.
The prob with bike shorts on the swim is that huge chamois full of water. If you end up doing it in bike shorts better really load it up with chamois cream.
@ Coach R I will not SBR in a bike chamois.
@ Joshua thanks for the imput.
I think there is at least one exception to that rule... the pad in the Desoto 400 mile bike shorts is a float pad and doesn't act like a wet diaper. The pad in the Forza Riviera tri shorts is similar (albeit a smaller pad).
Unfortunately Desoto only has XL in the Tribib and 400 mile bib and I'm a XXL kinda guy. I did find a replacement tri chamois for 16.95 that I ordered and will have it sewn into a XXL Louis Garneau bib. The current pad is no good and I was thinking about replacing the pad anyway as the bib is in good condition. Let ya'll know how that works.
