Accommodation in New York

Hi Team,

My wife was offered the opportunity to chair an Irish American event at the Rockerfeller centre in New York at the May, whcih of course wh has taken and if I'm good between now and then she might even left come over with her!!!

My question is: can anybody recommend any hotels not too far from the Rockerfeller centre that we could base ourselves out of for a few days sightseeing in Manhattan?  Preferably something not too expensive.

Thanks

  •  I don't know if you are going to do inexpensive in mid-town NY. My wife and I really like the Algonquin. It is a Marriot hotel and very quaint. It is not to far off of Rockerfeller Center or Times Square.

  • Irish-American event? Then stay at The Fitzpatrick!
  • Penny and I almost always stay at the Hudson right by central park. It is a boutique hotel so the rooms can be a little small.
  • I'm staying at the Trump Soho when I go up in July.
  • Not too expensive? In NYC? That's funny.

Seriously though, what is not too expensive? I work around the corner from Rock Center.
  • I realise that "not too expensive" and New York don't go together as accommodation is expensive.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I've taken the plunge and opted for the Affinia 50.  What can I expect weather wise in New York at the start of May?  In Ireland it is about 14 degrees C.

Any recommended things to see?  I spent a couple of days in New York in 1992 and drove down the east side of Manhattan last summer on way back from Lake Placid.

  • I would say you should see highs around 18C with lows around 10C at night.

I would run through Central Park. Take in a few museums. Check out some shopping and take advantage of the weak dollar.
