Triathlon Swimming Cancel

Someone just posted that NOLA swimming was canceled due to weather; 3 years ago, I was at Steelhead and they canceled the swim.  Anyone know if a full IM had a swim canceled due to weather? or simply just a temp delay?

thanks.

  • Several years ago in New Zealand they cancelled the swim and made it a HIM bike/run.
  • That doesn't surprise me. I raced yesterday and even though we are way down the Gulf from NOLA, our swim was really rough due to the winds pushing the surf in. You had to sight the buoys when you were on the top of a swell. The big winds came just after noon which means they would have hit NOLA in the morning. The lake must have been really bad. It's a shame when you train for so long and you can't execute the whole race, but the organizers probably made the right call.
  • In 2007 the IM CDA race director announced that, due to the rough waters, participants would have the option to participate in none or part of the swim, to have their swim time discounted, and to be timed as a duathlete.

    Most athletes chose to swim.
  • And one or both of the IMs @ Provo, Utah, had swim issues, at least one was a duathlon with TT starts. The CDA option was for those who wanted to do SOMETHING, but didn;t care about AG standings or Kona qual; skipping the swim also opted one out of those.

  • I did New Orleans yesterday. Represented EN in shiny blue old school jersey. Without the swim pulled off a 17 minute improvement on the biker and 19 minute improvement on the bike. Water was worse yesterday morning than at 4pm the day before when we jumped in to swim.
