looking for Your input

Just finished my OS with 3 PRs' in running races , I'm a happy guy with what's going on. So I go to train yesterday on my bike drainer and my Blackburn magnetic resistance trainer broke.

I want to buy a better one so I'm asking you folks your opinions as to what I should buy to replace mine. No more that 300.00 .

Thx D

  • Kurt Kinetic Road bike Trainer works great for me...might be just north of 300 though...
  • x2 on the KK Road Machine. I was able to get mine for $270 during a REI sale. MSRP is like $320.
  • x3 on the KKMRM. Quiet, smooth and about as close to real riding as you can hope for on a trainer. Got mine used on eBay and it's been perfect.
  • Since it's mid-April, will you need a trainer much longer/at all for several months? Figure you do since you're asking, just thought it was an odd purchase for April...but I'm in SoCal and know nothing about trainers

  • I have been using a Cycleops for 2 years now and it has been great and it gets the hell beat out of it. Mid April though there should be some cold weather biking clothes on sale including thick shoe covers. I would rather invest in that and start getting outside bro.

Its April here in Iowa and it was snowing, sleeting, and raining this week. Threw on the cold weather gear and hit it!!

@ Rich.....soooooo jealous about your year long weather....would love it
  • x2 on the CycleOps. Plus Saris has awesome customer service in case something does happen and you need a new part or a new piece of equipment.
  • Thanks ya'll...

With the season exploding here too I figured on getting a good deal on a trainer. You SCal folks , I get it. Lived 5 years in San Diego, I was in the military, and later moved to Santa Monica for 5 years.
  •  As a convert from Cycleops Fluid 2 to KK Road Machine, KK all the way. It does not even compare. I have them both and Fluid 2 is collecting dust in my garage. I used it for 2 years, had the resistance unit replaced due to unstable power curve. New one came in, installed, rode for a few times. Ordered KK and never looked back. It is much smoother, more stable and realistic power curve, better cam locking mechanism, better wheel lock engaging.........That is all without the oversize flywheel.

  • x whatever number we're at on the KKRM. Love mine. Well, as much as you can love a trainer anyway.
  • x3 on the Cyclops although I've always heard great things about the KK.

Anybody got the new Lemond trainer? Is it louder than a jet engine?
  • I used to have a Cyclops Fluid2 and prefer the KK. I actually prefer the KK over the Computrainer.

I couldn't say it better. Only I have the big flywheel...total ripoff pricing but it (the big flywheel) makes the trainer go from awesome to double-awesome. The Fluid 2 sits in a corner and if someone comes over to train they use it.

Actually I have one buddy who likes the Fluid 2 better because at the same power output the resistance curve of the Fluid 2 is faster so he posts a faster average speed. Man, some people are SILLY. And this guy has a PowerTap, if you can believe it. I don't even show the speed on my screen when indoors.

I was thinking about getting one until I saw the demo at the IMFL expo last November.  It was REALLY loud and that was outside with a whole bunch of people around.  I can't imagine how loud it would sound in your house.  It was a complete and total deal breaker.  It also costs $600.

  • I'm on a KK as well, switched from a low end tacx several years ago.  KK is much better but can't say I have much experience with trainiers which is a good thing.  Both have been good value for what I paid.
