Old Guy vs. Young Guys Smack Talk Thread

Testing something here as EN RD so figured I would start the smack talk thread while I was at it.

  •  I know that since I aged up last Tuesday, (thanks for all the Facebook birthday greetings) to the double nickels, I am pretty sure that I am the anchor (literally the pulling down) of the Mature squad.  What I want to know is I see John (aka Ace) sent this email at 4:44 am.  I am in a hotel room in North Carolina a long way from Southern California.  Is that time stamp West Coast, East Coast or local to the person who sent it?   I thought that I was the only one curse with getting up early.

  •  Did we decide on the division of the age groups?  What is considered young vs old?

I sent at 5:45 AM, so it looks like the time stamps are Mountain Time Zone?

  • WOW, seriously John?!? That video was a total fail, I feel dumber now just for watching the whole thing. I think your post just put the old guys in the hole 0-for-1. Thanks for the head start. I will keep your walkers warm and the oxygen cranked up on high at the finish line for you guys! ;-)

    SMACK TALK SCORE - Young Dudes - 1, Old Guys, - 0

Is there gonna be an EN IMAZ training camp sometime this year?? Anyone interested in helping organize one sometime this summer if there is not an official EN camp??

(Truth-in-Smack Disclosure: John and Jim kicked my a$$ on an EN SoCal group ride a couple of months ago, so I got work to do if I am gonna back up the smack) Happy training everyone!!
  • Where is that slow dude, Scott Alexander? I think he got slower cycling in Europe.
  •  Scott is posting stuff about huge rides . . .  but no data to back it up.  I think he is blowing smoke, big time.

    Greg, good to see ya.

  •  Greg, et al:

Based on Gregs comments below, I have started a thread about possibly doing our own Tri Camp for late September?

    It is here:

  • Sometimes I wish I was blowing smoke, but it's only my legs that are blowing...UP! Making me heavier it seems, with all the muscle I'm gaining from all the riding. Unfortunately, it's all happening in the first half of the year and not close enough to IMAZ. I hope to maintain it thru the rest of the year.

But as y'all saw, I did crash this weekend, so maybe that'll set me back a little. Also, I think I'm a little overtrained on the bike right now, I can't sleep. It's horrible.

I thought someone did some analysis and we decided the demarcation line between the youngsters and oldsters was 45ish.
  • 45ish ???!!!! Does that mean I get to choose which team I am on? I am 45 in June. I will have to wait and see who goes to which team before choosing sides. If Al goes with the old folks I am definately on the old team.
  • So where's the cutoff going to be?  I'm 40 now.  Should we do a sound off of everyone racing to try and get a better idea?  Sometime in the near future I'm going to need to start talking some $hit and need to know where to direct it.

  •  Terry, welcome to The Old Guys.

  • Nice video John and it was really cool that you got Scott out there to shoot it with you!

  • I think we should get Terry and keep the USAT age (end of year age) of 45 for the demarcation line between young and old. I think it was Matt S that did some sort of analysis to come up with that line?
  • Sounds good. 45 and under is on the young team and everyone else is on the losing team.
  • In case you haven't seen the paper, Arizona is having a massive wildfire.  The rumor is that some of the Old Guys were riding so fast that they set off some sparks!!!!

  • Never, ever underestimate a geezer!!
  • Guys can get chicked; young guys (and gals) can also get geezered. I will cackle as I pass you.

  • Nah you can't geezer me, you'll be out of the water waayyy before me and onto the bike! This has been a pretty damn quiet thread being that Alexander, Stark and Ambrose started smack talking 2 minutes after registration opened last year! Must be that all these kids mommies are making them go to bed too early.
  • Hey now, let's clarify your statement Mike...AMBROSE started the smack talking. I'm merely a victim - and if you notice VERY quiet. I'm taking the high road.
  • Scott I guess we'll have to take your word for it since I don't have Nemo's forum searching skills but I am pretty sure that there were about 20 posts in the first 30 minutes and the old guy vs kids line was drawn...I doubt that Ambrose "volunteered" to race as an old guy. Hell I think it was Lesh that had logo's manufactured within 24 hours for the young punks and mature members. Just glad I had the day off work so that I could get registered and join you guys for the race!
