Bike Setup on last Race Rehearsal

morning all,

I am now two weeks away from my first HIM (White Lake, NC) and am super stoked about the race.  This Saturday will be my last race rehearsal bike ride and I had a couple questions for do wicked smart peeps.

  1. Should I do this ride with my race wheels? I am planning to race with a wheelbuilder cover on my powertap on the rear and I picked up a HED3 for the front wheel.  I haven't used the HED3 yet and figured it wouldn't hurt to test it out since these are supposed to be really tough wheels.
  2. Is this a good idea?  If so should I put the cover on the rear wheel for the race rehearsal too?

Thanks for your help!

  • Yep, put on your party dress. If something is wrong (there won't be) better to find out now vs race day.

  • Dusty-

I ride a cervelo P3 and ordered a wheelcover for the back and my cogg in the highest gear rubs the chain on the wheel cover. Wheelbuilder recommended taking it to a bike shop and having them adjust my rear derailer a few mm.....anyhoo I did my first race rehearsal with everything on and learned a few things....# 1 those rear cages I put on behind my seat make it very difficult for me to reach behind on the go, grab and bottle, drink, and then put it back. Almost a gurantee I am going to twist and face plant...therefore invested in a speedfill....ahh much easier......best of luck and looking forward to seeing your race rehearsal. I am sending one in also today of my last race rehearsal to be baked.
  • As others said, yes. It's also good to break in race tires and make sure the innertubes are installed correctly/don't leak. I typically use my exact race setup for the 2nd RR.
  • very cool, thanks everyone! I am lucky because there is an open water swim Saturday AM at the local YMCA on the lake so I am going to have an opportunity to really check everything out this weekend.
