Quick Q re: HRM strap and cadence sensor on Joule

 Hi all.

I currently use a Garmin Forerunner 305 with HRM strap and wheel magnet / cadence kit on the bike.  Probably going to be upgrading to power soon with a Powertap and a Joule.  Apparently the Joule has various configurations, costing ~$50 extra or so for "HR and cadence" options.

My question is, would my current Garmin HRM strap and speed/cadence sensors work with the Joule in this regard? i.e., can I save $50 by not purchasing the additional Joule HRM strap and bike sensors?

As always, your experience and advice is much appreciated.  Thanks!

  • HR straps works just fine, not sure on cadence sensor since I don't have it. Joule has virtual cadence so no real need for a sensor it is good enough for me
  • +1 on the compatibility. I ride with my Garmin HR strap, Joule and PT. No special cadence needed, it somehow reads from the hub. But it does seem to overestimate cad above about 95-100.
  • Just an update I am using my Garmin HRM strap and the GSC-10 combination speed/cadence sensor with the Joule & PT and it all works great! I used PowerAgent and Golden Cheetah (both free) on the Mac and got some really cool graphs which I need to learn how they can help me by hitting up the webinars again after my exam. Thanks guys!
