Should I race a "half-lite" May 7 before IM Texas?

Hi all. There's a local race here next weekend (May 7) that's a Half-Lite = .8 mi swim / 40.3 bike / 8.8 run....I'm doing IMTexas the 21st and am thinking of using this race as a hard training session. I'm doing my Race Rehersal this weekend. Does it make sense to do this race or should I just stick to the final 3 weeks of the plan? If I do it, what should I target for my paces? Treat it like a half? Let me know your thoughts as I have to register before the 2nd. Thanks!

  • That sounds like the Devilman to me! Don't know if I'd call that local to Marlton though. I say do it. You can hammer the bike @ .85 not sure about the run though. Enjoy it.
  • Is IM TX your A race? If so then you should probably stay on plan to get ready for it. I tend to look on the negative side of these things. Doing the race instead of my training will net me no fitness benefit. However, I do have the opportunity to wreck or get injured. I have invested too much time and effort to take any extra chances leading up to the race.
  • No.

The best training you can do is what's in the plan, not a race, no matter how it's done. Taper, race, recovery, then have fun the rest of the summer.

  • Plan the work, work the plan. The plan knows all. The plan sees all. Do not diss the plan!
  • OK, no "half-lite".....thanks for the input - I especially didn't think about "crashing or getting hurt"...that would make IMTexas a little more difficult.
