Anyone Gone from Cobb Max TO Adamo TT?

I am trying to correct some things with my fit.  One of them involves switching from a Cobb Max to an Adamo TT (recommended by Todd Kenyon).  I wanted to find out if there are people out there who have this same change.  Interested in feedback.

  • Jim,

I know you posted this a few weeks ago...but just in case you haven't pulled the trigger on the switch...

Saddles, of course, are very rider dependent.  With that disclaimer out of the way, here's my experience.  I have and Adamo.  No big complaints, but I'd heard so much about the Cobb saddles, I bought the Max.  It killed me.  I just couldn't get comfortable on it.  After about 4 weeks of tweaking and adjusting, I gave up.  Fortunately, if you buy directly from John Cobb's site, he offers a lengthy guarantee and will happily refund...I think it's something like 180 days!  I really wanted to like the Max, but it just didn't work for me.  There was too much pressure near the nose of the saddle.  I put the Adamo back on and, although not perfect, it's soooo much more comfortable to me.

That's my experience.  Again, everyone is different.  A quick Google on Adamo vs. Cobb and you'll find opinions in direct opposition.  Seems like one or the other tends to work for most folks, but few like both.

  • I switched the other way. -- I currently have a Cobb Max and had an Adamo. I could get the Adamo to be comfortable when I was locked in aero, but whenever I sat up for any length of time there was pain --despite all my tweaking.
  • Here's my experience with the Adamo TT so far.  Again, about a month ago I switched out my Cobb Max for the Adamo TT.  And I did it right in the thick of Race Prep for IMCDA.

Adamo Pros:  Gets me more aero and flatter, almost NO chaffing or saddle soreness (3rd time out was a 90+ mile ride), staying aero feels way better than sitting up (see Cons below).

Adamo Cons:  Sitting up does NOT feel very good at all and will QUICKLY put undue pressure on your sit bones and in my case got my glute muscles and piriformis all flamed up.

At the end of the day, I like the Adamo TT better than the Cobb Max.  Wouldn't go back to the Cobb Max at this point.
