Monday- Swim/Run thread

Here we go it's monday and I swam at 5:00 am.  Will run tonight at 9:00.  Yeeeehaw.

  • Did run before work, boy is it hard getting the legs working that early. 1 hour 8.23 miles w/ mile repeats at 6:44, 6:24 and 6:25.

Swam at lunchtime for 55 min.  Then did some good stretching, rolling and core work.

  • Jelous that you can swim at lunch....Love my new roller...makes such a big difference...
  • the past 2-3 weeks has just been mentally and physically exhausting to me, so today I said enough and took a day out of work. best thing i ever did. Went for the hour run in the mid-morning and could actually see the potholes I usually step in (i usually am forced to run at night). legs felt good throughout the hour and i was nice and relaxed. total run was 7 miles with 2 at TP. will hit the pool in about an hour and will finally get to bed at a decent time tonight......only question is how do i call out sick for the rest of May and June?
  • Legs are a bit tired, but run during lunch today went pretty well. It's hilly near my work, so I sometimes have to tone down noon runs. Covered 7.2 miles with 2m @ TP. Swim at the Y when i get home tonight.

  • Had a great swim at lunchtime, exactly 1 hour to complete the workout, felt solid. Changed and went for a run. Left hip pain has been getting progressively worse, run sucked.  Seeing orthopedic Tuesday afternoon. Suspecting and hoping it is just bursitis.  Since rest at this point is not the best option, I'm thinking a cortisone shot will be tx of choice.  Anxious to find out.

Opened my pool this past weekend just in case deep water running will be in my future.

  • All f'd up by vacation/family wedding duty in Memphis this weekend. Rode a rental bike for ~1 hour Monday morning. Was going pretty well until I flatted. Put in the new tube and pinched it trying to get the tire back on. Patched it and it held, but all mojo gone, so called it good and went downtown to eat fried Southern goodness. Tasted great but stomach didn't seem to appreciate the extra "work".
  • Monday's swim wasnt reall pretty. I was trying to spend more time swimming instead of pulling but unless I was in a flat-out sprint, my feet were down near the bottom of the pool..... body position needs work but just cant seem to make it work. Need to rethink my approach and stop trying to get fast. Going to go back to form first.
  • Monday done - not as written.... I like the feel of long sets of all pull. Lets me focus on body pos and I think I am starting to get it. Late afternoon yesterday went well 3x1000 @ 1:51; 1:49; 1:49 - 55:03 total.
  • No swim yesterday as I just couldn't get out of bed. Late night run was good though with 3 x 1 mile at TP. Legs could feel the longer rides from the weekend, but they still responded.
  • Swam 60' after work today, 3300 yds - all pull, focus on form, no speed. Smooth and consistant, was able to zone out and not loose my stroke.

Looking forward to getting some OWS time soon. Check the local lake this weekend for temp, but expect it to be 48 or so - kinda cold for solo swimming....
  • First Open water swim today at lunchtime.  52 minute continuous swim, felt descent, water temp was not to bad.  Will try to get one more ows before Mooseman Oly.   Happy to finally get outside and get a long one in, next request is to get some sun here in the Northeast.

  • Did the 2500 as prescribed...back to having stomach issues post swim, but not too bad. Getting a bit faster for sure...will do my first open water swim this weekend in the wetsuit at the cabin. It will be cold!
  • I took the day off...Big Day on Friday, Day off Sat. Hard 2 hour bike ride on Sunday...
  • I took it off too. Work and home issues conspired against me - plus I rationalized it's only a swim... First outside bike test this evening or in the morning, depending on the weather.
  • No swim for me today as the pool was closed. I was the referee for a lacrosse scrimmage today, so that made me put in many 15" strides. The run tonight was tough as my legs felt really heavy from the weekend rides. It was also so humid. I cut it a little short, but still got in about 45 minutes. I can't wait to swim tomorrow.
  • OWS for me but only 1 lap (out and back) for about .5 miles. Water was murky with white caps, temp OK - maybe mid 60s. Took me almost 12 minutes to get out to my turnaround and only about 8 to get back with the waves. 20:20 is all I was into. The water was too gross and too rough - one or the other would have been fine but not both. I hate getting mouth fulls of silty water....

Afterwards I went to find another lake. Looks much nicer - has a sandy gravely bottom as compared to a clayey substate with weed beds.... We'll give it a go tomorrow. Also do the brick run tomorrow too. Today my legs had nothing left after back to back hard rides.

    Mooseman coming up...
  • I hear ya Steve, my legs were not there for me either today. Good luck at Mooseman!

  • Perfect day up here in Boston for a run. Surprised that my legs feel as good as they do. We'll see what happens after work.

  • Spoke way too soon. Legs normally open up after the first couple miles, but it never happened. Was only able to get 1 1m Z4/Z5 in...the rest of the hour was closer to Z2.

  • Completed both the run and swim today, but were dragging the whole time. Body still a bit tired from Saturday RR even though I had Sunday off. Only have a swim tomorrow, so it's almost like another day off.

  • My run was great, but the swim didn't happen. I hit the z4-5 intervals in 6:44, 6:36, 6:36...didn't feel great, so happy with the effort. @Henry - I was feeling the RR, but somehow managed to find the legs. We're in the home stretch, and the hole is getting deep! Hang in there!
