This past Saturday was a breakthrough for me...3 hour tough ride followed by a 4 mile run...The Breakthrough was how great I felt on miles 2-4...Mile 1 always sucks a little...
Had zero energy on the first half of todays ride. Stopped at Dunks, grabbed some caffeine and a wheat bagel. Felt much better on the second half. Got home just in time to find my wife about to bike...and of course she wanted me with her. Added a very easy hour to the workout...then a decent run. Early bike tomorrow...need time for mothers day.
That was a tough bike. 3:53,248TSS, .80 IF, FTP...Z3 the works. Followed by a brick. I am officially tired. Oh wait, I cant be, have to ride again tomorrow am before the wife gets up so I can get home and do the mothers day thing. Only week 1, long way to go but am sure it will be here sooner than I think. Happy weekend all.
Didn't know how to do the FTP intervals outside so figured I'd hammer for 1.5 to 2 hours then see how bad it was on the return trip.
30 minute samples, 4:30 total, 81.4 miles @ 18.0, TSS - 258, IF - 0.75, VI 1.07
1- 181; .842; 1.07 2- 182; .847; 1.01 3- 182; .847; 1.01 4- 161; .75; 1.06 includes a stretch break at the turn around 5- 171; .795; 1.03 6- 155; .72; 1.04 started to suffer 7- 148; .686; 1.03 8- 140; .651; 1.08 9- 128; .593; 1.14 by this point coulnt get any watts or get my cadence above 65 - i was toast!
Took 15 minute break then ran 4 miles. 8:55, 8:39, 8:33, 8:05...... 34:32 @ 8:33
really pushed the bike on my new training route...safer roads which allow me to stay aero and in zone...legs were totally done by the time I put on my running shoes..Total bike was 3:15 Bike computer crapped out on me and I lost count on how many laps I did (oops) but it was in the neighborhood of 57 miles I think...
80 miles Sat. 60 miles Sun. both solo. Legs, crotch, and mind pretty tired and sore by the end of Sundays ride. Can anyone please get the wind to stop blowing, for at least for 1 day ?
Amen Bob...wind was stoopid this weekend. I got in 65 and 45 respectively with my schedule, and I am beat. Wondering how the whole IM thing is going to work out!
First outdoor ride on the tri-bike that's had a new position (same angles, just tilted a little more forward) today. Just randomly picked 235 as that was my last indoor test and i haven't been close to it over the past few weeks (like almost 20 watts not close). FTP test was good and then the first 20' at "work zone". had to stop home and change as i just ended up getting too cold. changed and back on the bike to finish up the 1 hr. of "work zone".
this is where things seem to go well, but then change quickly. as i'm about 10 min. from my turnaround point i start to bonk. not good--stop at the mobil, get some water, but there is no way my stomach will handle food. get an electrolyte water and take off again with the goal of making it home. trying to pedal and barely holding 60%. get about half way home and encounter a slight incline and my legs just completely lock up. i was lucky to get one leg unclipped so i didn't fall over. sat for about 10 minutes with my legs on and off cramping. call my wife--no can pick up she says because she's at a kids birthday party. start to get myself home with the pedals just spinning with around 100 watts on them. by this time i'm cold again because i'm coasting so much. make it home, grab some food and water, shower, lay on the couch. still ended up with .80 IF for 4 hrs with the last 1:40 at .60 IF. man that hurt. needless to say i didn't run.
trying to figure out the bonk. had PBJ english muffin 5 minutes before I left. 1 bottle of gatorade, another bottle of water and a nature valley granola bar. this should have fueled me for more than 3 hrs, wouldn't you think?
@ Keith - sorry no help here. Doesn't seem to add up to a bonk. What was yesteday and the past few days like?
Still haven't tested outside yet. Not sure I can figure out how to 42' without a whole bunch of hills, traffic and crappy pavement..... I'll just keep putting the time in till I get to testing. Current setup is using my indoor FTP - before bike fit with Todd.
Tried a new route today, ended up being 76 miles. Took 4:20 @ 17.5 mph. NP - 164 (.764). Joule reports 4500' gain, 310xt says 2400' - so, which one is right? My guess is Garmin is a better estimate. Not sure how Joule guesses elevation gain....
Ten minutes after the bike I jumped on the treadmill. First 20' @ 8:34 then 7:30 (HMP) to finish 4 miles in 32:29 @ 8:07
Midway in my ride, I stopped to stretch and tinkered with my Adamo. Moved it forward and increased the tilt a little. Seemed much more comfortable for the return trip.
Really likeing the Infinite in my Speedfill. Easy to adjust for different length rides. Has worked great and no bonks in my last 3 rides totaling over 12 hours. Nutrition every 15 minutes, chase with water.
Looks like heavy rain tomorrow.... not looking forward to 3 hours of wet....
@Keith, chalk it up to it just wasn't your day....
rainy condictions plus weather reports of more serious storms and my wife was headed to a party with my daughter equaled me on the trainer...My wife was worried about me being out on the road with no back up if something was to happen... Solid 3:15 minutes on the trainer with a strong 25 minute run afterwards...legs were hurting... Really missed being outside.
Anybody doing the Int plan? Looked at Sat bike and says 3 hours but in the season planning thingy I did at the beginning it says 4 hours, which is right? I guess in the grand scheme of things not a biggy, just wondering what everyone else is doing.
I was planning on doing 3, and making it a RR for Quassy next weekend to see if I have my gears dialed in right. Then do a 2 or 3 hour ABP ride on Sunday. Then get plenty of volume in at the Placid rally the following weekend. If it's a four hour ride that will blow my plan! (Pat M - if you see this, what do you think about what I'm doing?)
Completed the 3 hours today and felt like I was pushing fairly hard from most of the day. Legs cramped a little on the run, which is still concerning, but when I downloaded the bike data an IF of .865 may have been the culprit. It was a beautiful day here in Boston today, but kind of humid. I felt like I jumped in a salt bath when I was through.
Crappy weather here in Maine made me wait till 2PM to head out for my ride. Took the first 30' relatively easy (IF=0.78) then turned up the pressure. Using the interval button every 30 minutes has been very helpful to me - keeps me focused on realtime watts. Ended up with 30' @ 0.95; 30' @ 0.90; and 60' @ 0.89.
Overall ride 2:56; TSS 222; IF 0.874; 56 miles @ 18.9 mph;
First ride with my new Cobb V Flow Max. Had to stop and adjust after only 3 miles than another adjustment at 28 mile turn around. The second stop really helped a lot - the 30' intervals home were the 3 fastest and highest IF of the ride.
Cool and windy here in Boston today. A little over 4 hours of loops through the Blue Hills and lots of head winds made for a tough day. Ended up with 75 miles at around .836 IF. Legs were pretty toast and mentally I was done, so no brick. I'll try to fit it in tomorrow, but have a lot on tap. One week from LP camp and I'm a little nervous about the RR.
Know I shouldnt, but missed the swim on Friday and did it saturday morning. 4100yds in one lane surrounded by screaming kids!
Got home and rode 4.5hrs for about 82miles @ .79. Still having trouble reading my LYC...ordered the Joule and cant wait for it to arrive. 25 minute easy run when i got home. Felt so so...
Did mine on Friday. 89 miles in 4:45. That was a tough effort. I did FT efforts of 20', 16', 12', 8', 4'...that's more FT work than I've done in a couple of years. Then followed that up with 6x12'@85%...WTF! I hit most of them pretty close to target, but I had a huge tailwind on the last 3 intervals and was literally spinning out on the flats going 32ish. I was totally cooked at the end, but felt good to finally deliver a really solid long ride. Feeling much better about the RR next weekend!
Really good Saturday ride. Nailed all the FTP intervals and then just kept on the 85% for the full 75 minutes without a break. Total workout was 4:15:xx, IF .85, VI 1.04 and 302 TSS, 75 miles. Definitely tired, but pushed the whole ride. Very glad there wasn't a run after this one.
Legs felt pretty good on the ride today and I think I nailed the FTP and ABP part of the ride. The run after was mental torture though--just kept telling myself that I needed to keep moving to get it over with. I didn't get out until about 12:30, so it was well into the 80's. If LP is like this there will be carnage on the course with me being one of the corpses. Weight has been 170 the past few days- weighed in after the workout----165, with taking in 6 bottles of fluid (168 oz). OUCH, that's not good for a 3.5 hr workout.
i had a great ride, but made the executive decision to skip the brick. i woke up feeling something that resembled an ITB flair up this morning and I don't want to aggravate something i have avoided for so long! Will be spending time on the Trigger Point tonight.
