Do I go see the doc? Knee stuff

Last June, I had my knee scoped. They removed a plica and some cartilage. After cleaning up the cartilage, they found that I now have a hole (1 - 2 cm) in the lower medial quadrant of the patella.  He said I'd just have to wait and see how it took to running and cycling, especially hills. He said if I wanted to continue to run, I needed to also continue with my weight training, which I've done.

I've now started training for NYC marathon and am having some occasional pain/discomfort. Mostly when I'm not running but sitting or walking around. I did have a little discomfort running today. It is really odd when it pops up. I'm considering making an appointment with a new doc (now that I'm part of a sports med group) to see if he has any non-surgical suggestions. I'm wondering if some of that lube they now shoot into the knee will help.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help!
