Press release here:

From the webpage, it's a little confusing, so I'll wait to see what's the full story.

  • Just saw that news myself here: http://inrng.com/?p=2932

Frankly I'm not sure I like the move from a consumers point of view, but I guess time will tell.
  • Regardless, I'm happy for the owners and staff. Good people, hopefully they get a good payday out of the deal.
  • I figured it was only a matter of time until someone acquired quarq. I'm glad it was Sram because personally I like sram products and also they have shown they can buy a company and not screw it up (i.e. Zipp).

I hope that this gives quarq the capital and resources to grow and continue to develop new products. I also hope that they make a S9XX crank arm in 165mm as I've asked both sram and quarq about it and they both responded similar... "not this year" and "maybe next year".

As far as negatives, over time they will stop making new cinqos for competitors cranks, and folks that have these and need service will at some point just recieve a sram replacement.

The good news is the S9XX platform is a proven and reliable crank that is available in GXP(BSA Threaded), BB30, and BBright all with the same spider design. It's not the lightest or stiffest but it also isn't heavy or weak by any means.
