13 weeks to go, what are you doing?

Hi all,

With 13 weeks to go, what are you doing to get ready for Boulder?  I'm using this week as a transition week from the Jan OS before starting the 12 week HIM plan.  I'm also racing the Sprint and Olympic in June and July respectively, but I'm treating those as nothing more than "fun" training days.

I have 3 more weeks of Wednesday time trial races to go (at Cherry Creek Reservour) for those of you that are local.

Looking forward to training and meeting you.

  • Jumped into the HIM plan this week to try and get some fitness. Kind of a messed up OS for me as I spent most of it trying to figure out and fix some foot issues that limited bike and run time. Not sure that they are resolved yet but going to go forward with the year and contemplate surgery on both feet after IMAZ for a final resolution.

I will also be in Boulder for the spint and olympic At the advice of one of the locals here going to ride the Boulder Peak course after the sprint in June.
  • @Mike - It looks like we have the same race schedule. I'll be doing all the Boulder races as well prior to IMAZ. We'll have to hook for some training rides ahead of time. Take care of those feet.

I'm starting the 12 week HIM plan today with a swim/run brick. I actually made it the gym at 4:30 this morning to swim, but the pool was packed! I waited for 30 minutes then bagged it. I'll go this afternoon and get it done.
  • @Aaron any interest in riding a loop of the HIM course after the sprint Sunday? I am going to plan on riding the course to get familiar with it after I finish the race. It will be a slow one for me on Sunday but would welcome the company.
  • @Mike - Thanks for the offer, but I won't be able to do it.  I have to head back to Denver as soon as I'm done racing since we have a bunch of family events for Father's Day.  Perhaps we could schedule a training ride on another weekend?

  • Forgot about that whole Fathers day thing! Think that's the kind of stuff that has me in the ER getting looked at with my wife falling me a dumbass! I have a pass for the weekend because the family is in Vail for volleyball. Definitely can get together for some rides, I am in north CS so pretty quick to Denver area.
  • Crack me up!  It's the whole family in Vail thing that got ya mixed up.  Let's coordinate after this weekends race.

If you are in EN gear (easy to spot), I'll keep an eye out for ya.  Good Luck.

  • I'm trying to get to where I can run again.  Achilles isues have drailed my plans.  I was really cooking on my run improvement until I decided it would be a good idea to do my last OS test without properly warming up.  I haven't run in 3 months.

On the plus side, my biking and swimming are improving nicely.  I may end up doing both these races as aqua-bikes.

Was really hoping that with targeted body compensation and improved running skills, I'd hit sub-5 hours for the 70.3.

The other annoying part is that I've signedup for this race 4 times and never finished (for various reasons, both within and outside my control).  Was looking forward to getting that monkey off my back.

    EDIT

By "both these races", I mean the Peak and the 70.3.  I am not signed up for the sprint this weekend.

  • @Steve what a bummer. Are you getting treatment on the achilles? I'm heading into the sprint this weekend with a bum left shoulder (lost focus for 5 seconds on a descent by Leadville in May and laid the road bike down) so I can kind of relate. I reviewed with the physical therapist and her advice was to race as hard as I feel I can and she'll fix whatever I tweak next week, much tougher to do that on a run though! I remember your posts from last year relating the challenges you've had with Boulder, hopefully you can miracle up a cure and make a decent race out of this!
