TTT (N. Carolina), IM plan or HIM plan

Seems like alot of fun.  just researched it, wasn't aware that you 'had' to do all 4 races.  pretty cool!   my fall race is the S. Carolina Rev3 Half.  But, haven't signed up yet.  And, even if the TTT didn't work for me until 2012, I'm curious as to which EN plan you should use, HIM or IM.  Basically, it's IM volume but spread out over 3 days, thus higher intensity (?).

What experience do you have with it?

Comments

  • Chris, word on the street is that its tougher than an IM. I can't say, just talked to some people at White Lake that made those comments.
  • Dave - OK, I'm in.

    2011 vs 2012, tbd.
  • Recommend you use the HIM plan and add a little volume, ie, ~30-60' to the scheduled bikes and ~15' to the runs, but no longer than the 2:00 called for in the HIM plan.
  • I have a friend who's doing the OH TTT in a few weeks, and she's doing 2-a-days for bike/transition runs on saturdays.

Don't take it lightly, that thing will probably beat the crap outta ya, 4 (hilly) races in 3 days...yikes.
  • Scott, thx for the warning, noted. As far as taking it lightly...I'm not experienced enough or talented enough or fast enough or whatever enough to earn the option of taking anything lightly around here image
  • This race is soooooo on my list! I know folks who did the NC TTT as a Big Training Weekend in prep for an IM (IMAZ I think) and I'd agree with Rich, the Half IM plans with just a little extra volume is gonna be enough. Full IM plan would be overkill. The key to success with this race is going to be pacing yourself to make it through the 4 days and proper recovery after every event. I'm talking super duper focus on getting in the recovery drink, icing the legs in the lake, putting them up and getting off your feet until the next event.

I'm out for 2011, but still trying to figure out my 2012 plans, hmmmmmmmmm.
  • OK, Nemo - 2012 might work better for me, too. (2011 isn't out of the picture, yet) So, I'll be holding ya to this one!

but i decided I'll printout 3 SC plans and 1 HIM Plan and do them all at the same time with the same finish date!.  SUPA EN STYLE!

  • @all -- still trying to decide my 2012 plans.... and the NC Triple-T is a leading contender. Can I give a 'definite maybe'? image
  • @ Joe - don't know about you, but 'definite maybe' is about as certain as I can EVER give to a race. I'm never SURE that I'm doing any particular race until I'm 250m into the swim!

    I can relate!!!

  • this sounds awesome! White Lake in October would be awesome. 2012 is definitely on my list of options!
  • this is cool, maybe we can really put an EN stamp on the place in '12!
  • Chris - I'm doing TTT Ohio in 4 days. I've followed the HIM Advanced with a bit of a bump on the bike as Rich suggested. I'll let you know how that works out and if I would do anything different with the benefit of hindsight. Not sure where in NC the race is, but the one here in OH is in the big hills so that adds yet another challenge.
  • @ Jeremy - Yes, give us feedback on tweaking of the plans. Go have a great weekend and get a race report in. I've got the TTT itch.
