The Saga of my Left Hip

I know I've been complaining about my left hip in a number of posts, a problem I have had for 2-3 years now.  Well I found out what it is this past Tuesday, so thought I would share the findings with my LP comrades.

I have a congenital hip problem that has led to what is called FAI (femoral acetabular impingement)  which over time has created a tear in my labrum.  Which is why the problem has been getting progressively worse over time.

Running has become increasingly difficult and I suffer quite a bit  for 4-5 hours after my runs, but then the pain subsides greatly, and I am ready for my next workout.

Although surgery is what needs to be done, the doctor agreed to put me on high doses of antimflams and I am scheduled for an intra-articular injection 10 days prior to LP.   I will have to alter my training with a lot of deep water running, and running on an  elyptical machine.  I am hoping I will be able to continue to improve my fitness and get to the line with enough mental toughness so I can make a true effort for that Kona slot.

I promise not to whine about it any more, now that I have shared my story it's time that I ignore it and get on with my training !

  • Now you will be able to train smarter since you now have a tangible diagnosis and treatment plan. Keep up the good work cheers Steve
  • Glad that you at least know what it is...sounds like you have a good plan to adjust your training...
