Top secret fueling strategy at IM SG

My sister was taking pictures for the slide show at the banquet at IM SG.  She came across this after the swim start - so I guess the pizza actually went out on the course.   I wonder how it works - 1/2 pice evey 15 minutes with some water?   I don't think it adheres to the EN bike set-up guidelines though, so I'm sure it wasn't one of ours.

  •  I can top that!

  • Wow! That gives new meaning to Pizza Delivery!! Wonder what toppings it has?? LOL!!
  • what was the guy/girls finishing time?  It would be embarassing to be out there with your super secret infinit mixture peeing on your bike to save seconds only to get PIZZA'd at the end.

  • Awesome! I'll do some "what's on my bike" in IMTX transition. I have some from 2010 IMAZ that I will get up soon.
  • Chris, I love that the first thing that you thought when you saw that was "boy, I wouldn't want to get PIZZA'ed!"

That said, now that you've brought it up, I'm wondering the same thing...
  • Was laughing in my car on the way home from work yesterday thinking about this thread...
Was really wishing we could see his number so we could look up his/her times.
Was laughing at the thought of this guy throwing up a good time pizza and all. That would be pretty bad-a$$. "Yah, I KQ and ate a pizza halfway through the bike course. I find the pizza really fuels my run"...
Either the dumbess thing to do or a total show off...I'm guessing its on the side of dumb things to do...I wonder if the pizza tasted just as good coming up as it did going down..
  • @nate may not be dumb for him as hopefully he or she tried it before hand. I can tell you I have eaten strange things and it helps me.

Nothing like passing someone on the bike with a slice in one hand

  • @Steve, you are right...whatever works for him/her...this would be puke city for me For sure...
Passing someone with a slice in one had would be great...that's pretty hard core.
  • I know a guy who fuels himself, via special needs on both the bike and the run, with McD's double cheeseburgers! He's beaten me at both IMs we've done together, so something is wonky!
  • @Scott, so on his long saturday bike rides does he have to wait until McDonalds starts serving burgers or does he pick them up the night before so he can practice taking down the burger during his ride?? image
One only wonders what this Pizza guy had in his SN bags.. I'm thinking Calzone...

He buys them the night before. Don't worry tho, they don't go bad! they last FORever!

  • Scott, you aren't riding with this guy, are you?

  • @Mike, I just saw that news article, funny.

This guy, who is one of the few who can give themself a nickname and have it stick, is called "FatMan" (he gave it to himself in high school), here in Dallas. The guy isn't super fast, but he's a steady diesel of an endurance athlete. Crazy the things you see in this sport!
  • in order to eat the pizza, he'd have to eat it crust first. this reduces the aerodynamic drag by placing the point of the triangle forward thus reducing frontal area of each slice. it's probably also important to have a slightly thicker crust so that it doesn't flop into the wind which would create a parachute effect.
