I heart zipp - awesome customer service
So many of you may know that I have been a fan of zipp wheels for some time now. They really are just plain cooler than HED's or any others. Just are. Anyhow, while I have heard they are awesome customer service wise I never had to test that out until now. Some of you may recall that I had a mishap on my bike at Cuse 70.3 last year [if you search for the RR there are a bunch of bloody pictures]. I managed to turn upside down going 23 mph and in the melee my front 808 when from true to less than true. It was pretty crooked, like hitting the brakes. Because I am lazy I waited a few months to have it looked at. Brought it to a shop who took a look and said that one of the spokes had pulled out and that if they tried to true it the whole thing might come out. Oh and it's not safe to ride. Again, because I am lazy I waited several months to bring it to another shop to have them send it back to zipp [only a dealer can send it in]. I knew that they had a crash replacement policy where they might give you a deal on a new one or fix it or whatever. I was thinking best case like half off a new one or something. 2 weeks ago it was sent to zipp and they said they would take a look and let the shop know but there was about a 10 day wait to look at it. Ok.
So, anyhow, today the shop calls and says that while zipp never called as promised a band spankin new one showed up at the shop today, no charge!
Seems almost nutty that I mailed them a 2006 or 2007 808 [no clue as I traded a tubbie 404 for it with some guy in ST] which I damaged in a crash and they send me a brand new 2011 wheel for free. Did not even charge any shipping. Anyhow, that is pretty freaking cool in my book!

A modest fee for an upgrade and a build-up that they were under no obligation for....I am sold.

@Joe - that is great. Did you but the PT from competetive cyclist by chance? I ask because I heard a story very similar to that last night.
Of course, not only do they have great customer service, they have great products as well. Last Sept I hit the rear end of a slow moving (3 mph) pickup @ 25 mph, and my front Zipp 404 not only suffered not one mm of loss of true, but I didn't lose any air from my tire either
I also ride with Zipp cranks. I'm glad they've joined foreces with SRAM and Speedplay for a powerful US alternative to the Italian and Japanese monopolies.
