Getting My Head Around 64' of Z4 Tomorrow AM

IMCDA will be my 4th IM.  I've been doing LC triathlon for five years and have never worked this hard (or smart).  I am finding that one challenge my body is faced with is shifting the Long Run from Sunday's to Thursday's.  I now LOVE doing a Thursday Long Run.  But it is taking my body some time to adjust to following up the Thursday Long Run with a tough, tough Bike 48 hours later.

It's been raining (non-stop) here for five straight days.  Tomorrow is going to be sunny and 65 degrees.  At present I'm trying to get my head straight about 64' of Z4.  And rest/recover as much as possible.

  • Yeah I was looking at the intermediate plan vs advanced and no difference in the ftp work, just in the z3 work. Should be lots of fun, just need to not explode like I did after the last major ftp work like this.

  • Hey Jim!!!! Good to see you over here with your IMCDA family. Not sure what my legs will feel like tomorrow after the RR last weekend and a messed up schedule that resulted in me doing my long run today (and the long swim) BUT, the weather should be good and after our RR last weekend on the actual course, I'm looking forward to NOT having those hills tomorrow.
  • Sorry I'm just seeing this Jim, and as Michael says good to have you here. I feel the same way as you. The legs just don't have much get up and go after the Thursday long run, Friday swim and 30-40 minute "recovery" run. Throw in that we are so close to taper and we're all feeling it. I'm just trying to do my best and getting the FTP work in by climbing. I think may be normal.
Hope it went well for you.

... getting the FTP work in by climbing....

Ditto. I'm not working the rides so hard, but I am climbing. 6000' in 57 miles today, topping out @ 11,600 elevation. I think I had more mitochondria than oxygen molecules in my thighs there at the end. Followed it with a 40 minute run.

  • FWIW - maybe I'm just not tough enough, but I can't hit those zones. I have worked up to getting to .82 IF on the short rides which inlude short periods of Z4/5 (maybe 5 min bursts), but that is about it. I get there on hills on the long rides (sorta gotta to make it up them) but that's about it. Maybe next year!
