Biking Question

I have a question about my biking abilities and moving up to Ironman. Currently with my fitness (only been training consistently for 2 months) I can average between 15-16 mph for a 2:30 hour ride. After a year of drinking the Kool-Aid and working through the outseason plan will I be able to bike fast enough/comfortable enough to finish my first Ironman? Any thoughts or comments would be great.

  • Trey, if it's a goal of yours to get it done, EN can help you get there. One outseason will bump up your average mph on the bike, the training plan will bring you to the starting line ready to go, and the execution guidelines will keep you smart all day, so that you can cross the line with a smile on your face. Many of us have doubted whether or not we could do it a year out, only to go through the process, and see the results.
  • Thanks Mike. You hit it on the head, I am a little nervous to sign up. Fear of the unexpected I guess.
  • Trey, I know I felt the same way. Excited but terrified.
  • Trey, when you focus on the 'Big Challenge' of Ironman, it's ez to get intimidated and question your abilities. Once, you've actually registered, I recommend staying focused on the little steps day in/day out. Don't even think about the big day until you get so close to it that you can smell the Body Glide. You're here, you've already helped yourself avoid many months of wasted workouts, inadequate recovery, and unnecessary injuries. So, day in/day out, do the work. Be patient. The body is incredible at adjusting to these kind of stresses and improving fitness. But, stay in the now. Good news for you....these guys have done this a few times, trust them. More than likely, they know better. This is one scenario where mooching is OK, you don't have to break down any unknown training frontiers!
