Wheel Cover Questions
I think I am going to get a wheel cover, and had a few newbe questions about it. So in no particular order:
1. First - is it easy to install myself? I have a chain whip and can swap out the cassett.
2. Once it is on, does it stay on for the rest of the season - for training and racing? Is it easy to put on and off?
3. What if is going to be very windy on race day? Take it off?
4. When should I install it? I was thinking about a month out so that the last race reheasal is done with the cover, and leave it on for all rides after that.
Thanks for help everyone.

2) No, the wheelbuilder recomendation is to only have it on for races. However, many have left them on for some training with no issue.
3) Leave it... the rear disc is very predicable and easy to handle in the wind. The front wheel is the one to worry about in the wind.
4) I think that is too long. I would just have one good ride on it before your race. It takes very little time to get used to it. I would put it on a week before your race and do your few rides race week on it.
(1) it's very easy to install. Take the rear wheel off. Remove the cassette. Put the wheel cover on each side of wheel, lining up the whole with the valve. Use the plastic screws, bolts to hold the cover together. Place cassette back on. Done. 5-10 minutes.
(2) It comes off after the race
(3)Leave it on even for windy conditions. Search on Matt Ancona's posts for riding with wheel covers on wind, but in general, you should use them unless they are not allowed.
(4) Install it a couple of rides before the race. You may want to do a race rehearsal with them. I don't. I'll typically ride 20-40 miles just to make sure everything works.
Practice putting air in the tire too. It can be a little hard to get the pump lined up with the tube valve, so just make sure you can do it before race day.
funny, I think we responded at the same time. Glad the advice matches!
