Bike FTP Test
Did my first ever outside power test after work today. Went to a state office campus that has a flat, 2.3 mile loop on it with no light, intersections, and very few cars by about 6:00 PM. Was able to go 100 percent the whole time without stopping or slowing down for anything.
I'm very happy where EN has gotten me so far! My first test back at the start of the November OS gave me an FTP of 201. I got to 257 by the end of the OS. The entire OS was spent riding upright, on the trainer. I got a new tri bike and been riding that for the last month. For tonight's test I was in the aerobars for the both 20' work intervals, and ended up with a new FTP of 277! I must say was pretty motivated to kill it tonight.
Results were:
First 20': NP = 278, HR = 158, Cadence = 90, Speed = 22.8
Second 20': NP = 280, HR = 165, Cadence = 89, Speed = 22.9
Overall 42': NP = 277, HR = 161, Cadence = 89, Speed = 22.5, VI = 1.01
Finished up with an easy 20' run. A good night! Will be happy to only be swimming tomorrow.

I tried the first outdoor test this morning. realized about 8' into it that i went out too fast. since it's been hard to find time to do this test, i decided to get some metric by trying to crush myself for 20' so i can take 95% of that and move on. i've felt that my FTP has slowly been dropping over the past 2 months and i'm curious to see what the data looks like. i just bought a new laptop and can't get it to recognize the cradle yet, so we'll see what happens when i call Sarius tomorrow. i'm hoping it's a good number.
I did my first ever outdoor FTP test as part of last Saturday's w/o. Drove 45 minutes to the Delaware River on NJ/PA border where I've raced before. There is a 12 mile flat section there which I figured would be good for testing. Lost one bike bottle on pothole, almost lost control of bike going over some white powder substance (limestone?) and only one car honk.
Ave Power: 278 (1st 20)
Ave Power: 277 (2nd 20)
NP for test: 274
Ave Cadence: 88
VI: 1.02
That's a nice bump from 253 (indoors). I did a HIM a week before and conservately guessed by NP to be 263ish. My NP for that ride was 225. So I ended up doing that race at .82IF based on these new #s. So my guesswork wasn't too far off....
Rode for another 2.5 hours after refueling and then did 25 minute run......a good day.
