Tri-malleolar fracture of my right ankle--Tell me about rehab

So on my way out for the Sunday bike ride I slipped on the stairs. Ended up with a nasty break in my right ankle (http://www.ayerd.com/?p=35) which pretty much clobbers my 2011 race season...  or at least a solid chunk of it.

Since this is the first set of broken bones in the last 3 decades. What can I expect out of rehab? I'm sure general strengthing and stretching will be procscirbed.... but... does anyone have an idea of what I can look forward too?

ps/ Gravity is a harsh mistress.

  • Dan,
    sorry to hear that
    multiple issues here:
how bad was the fx - was it dislocated before they reduced it? you only have one film up there, can you send me the other films (and the one before reduction, after reduction, and after surgery?) straight to hasanbaydoun@gmail.com
how was it fixed? did they tell you if they put a 'syndesmotic' screw - one across both bone? are you going to need another surgery to remove a screw from in there?
Medical problems, esp diabetes? I'm guessing you don't smoke - cos smoking is the devil.....

general expectations, : weight-bearing in 6 weeks, sports-specific strengthening in 3 months, if it's an uncomplicated fx.

    keep me posted
