Regular Tire on Trainer

I finally swapped out my trainer tire for my regular tire on the weekend after a very long winter.  Today we seem to be back to crappy weather so I'm thinking of doing my ride tonight on the trainer.  Given that I'm inherently lazy, I'm inclined to just slap the bike on the trainer and not bother with putting on the trainer tire.  Any harm in doing this given that it's only a 75 minute ride?  I don't want to wreck my training and racing tire, but equally don't want to fight with my rim for 20 minutes....

  • I switched between midweek trainer rides and weekend outdoor rides on the same gatorskin to build to 2 IMs last season. Your tire will be fine.
  • No problem, go for it.
  • I've been running a regular tire on my trainer all through the OS (since early December) and on weekday intervals as an experiment to see if it wears out crazy fast. So far no issues.
  • I've been switching - partly just for the practice. And I think it has paid off! I'll be much faster fixing a flat now. Lots of free speed! Then again, I'm crossing my fingers that I've seen the last of my trainer between now and Placid.
