Fly By Night Duathlon at Watkins Glen

I was going to be in Watkins Glen this past weekend anyway, and I somehow discovered that this duathlon was going on and that I would get to ride my bike on the race track so I had to sign up.  I had done a hard HIM the previous Sunday but couldn't pass up the chance up to ride on the track.  The format was run/bike/run/bike/run with each run being 1.8 miles and each bike being 3 laps of the track which was about 10 miles each.

I ended up 16th overall out of 196 and had a great time.  The ride was really fun and despite all the elevation gain I never used my brakes once due to the banked nature of the turns (except of course going into transition).  Here are a few pics.

That's me out on the track.

And heading for the finish line.

Comments

  • Nice! How was the pavement surface? I've heard tracks are crazy smooth

  • In the car there are some bumpy places, mainly some concrete patches so I just avoided those on the bike.  For the most part it was buttery smooth.  Taking the banked turn 1 at 30mph on the bike was wild!  No brakes!
