Jaded biker

Did a Metric Century this past Saturday with a South Jersey sponsored bike club.

Nice I pulled down a IF of .82 or so.

A guy at work has been wanting to ride with me for awhile. So I gave up a day to spend with him and his pals. We would talk about doing intervals at work and bike stuff. So I figured as a roadie he would be all jazzed up pulling falling off pulling falling off. Not so much.....

On a 64 mile ride for fun him and his pal was on my a## the whole ride drafting saying then never rode so hard and fast, just talking it up, kind of embarrassing in a way.

Long story short, I'm jaded as to biking and the general public, as a Triathlete those folks on the outside looking in seem to think we are Super men/women. I don't know, it was just sort of funny in a nice kind of way.

Thought to share...

  • I think you'll find roadies and triathletes have different mind sets. In general, triathletes ride to get in a good workout, push hard all the time. Roadies ride to win. No matter how hard I push all day, I'll never win the last 50 yard sprint.
  • Having started out as a roadie, but having spent the last 20+ years doing tri-riding -- I like to have the finish on an uphill as slowly amping up the watts lets you burn off the folks not used to riding hard.

Agreed. I've never understood the appeal of training how you race, ie, do as little work as possible into the World Championship of Pottersville Sprint sign appears...then get back in the group. If I'm on my bike, I'm there to work.
