2012 Oceanside Registration is now open

It looks like Ironman just opend registration for the 2012 California 70.3 yesterday.  I haven't looked at it carefuly, but the big changes I see for 2012 are (1) no Kona slots; (2) only 40 Vegas slots (down from 5); and (3) price increase to $300.

  • I thought I paid $300 for oceanside last year so that might just be the same price (or I paid extra to register late or something). But yes, Kona spots are gone and there are less vegas spots.
  • I paid $300 for my first full distance Ironman, IMFL, in 2000. Wow
  • I had thought that Oceanside was $250 for a few months and then $275, but I could be confusing it with other 70.3 races.
  • 70.3 kona qualifiers for 2012.   only four.   st. croix.  hawaii.  eagleman.  buffalo springs lake.

You may be right, either way it was already the most expesive 70.3 I have done (with the exceptions of the world championships which have always cost more).  Now it is even more with less spots and the will probably find a way to put 3500 people on the course.

All that said, I actually really liked the race and would like to do it again.  Bike was a good challenge but not too hard.  Run was just straight out fast but still a legit 13.1 miles.  Pretty ideal in my mind.

  • I registered Saturday for Oceanside 70.3, can't wait for an early season 70.3. Staying at the Holiday Inn.  Is it too early to start a 2012 Oceanside 70.3 Group ?

  •  Hi Steve,  I registered for Oceanside myself. It will be my second Half IM. Glad that someone else from EN is doing California. I live down the road in La Jolla, so I have a little knowledge of the weather and conditions, but have never done the race. I have a few friends who did last year. I'm in for a 2012 Oceanside Group. Though I'm focused mostly on this season.

  • I'm registered as well!
  • I'm going to do Wildflower, and would like to get a BIG EN presence there, but I may do Oceanside as well. I've done the OC/WF double many times, no big deal. Oceanside is a good race but I prefer Wildflower. The weekend of camping and racing with friends is the total package.

That said...maybe I'll do OC to give me a slightly earlier goal than WF, then roll the OC fitness into Wildflower. We'll see!
  • I'm signed up for Oceanside. I have a big bet against a friend on that race. I'm giving him a one hour time cushion. The slowest time between us two means make sure your wallet is very thick for the flowing drinks and dinner the evening following the race. X2 on coach Rich; want to do Wildflower 5 weeks later and make it an big EN weekend festival
  •  I just started one...
