Support Shoes Causing Achillies Trouble?

So stopped by the running shoe store and got an assessment.  Apparently, I run like a doofus.  I have always used neutral shoes, but they felt I really needed aggressive support to correct my over pronation.  As I have aa HIM in 4-5 weeks, I didn't want to make such a huge change to my running right now, so I opted for a more moderate support shoe to start getting used to corrected running.  Never had any injury or soreness from the neutral shoes, but the video was almost painful to watch.

Went for a 45 min. with a couple of good hills (1.5 min 8 or so %).  Felt fine during the run.  Later that night and the day after I have significant soreness in my right achillies.  It is almost to the point of pain.  I did a 60 min. ride today with some good z4 efforts.  I could tell I was sore, but no real pain.  Still sore now after a few hours.

Anyone have any issues with changing from neutral to support shoes?  Think this is just a soreness issue I can live with, or should I back off the new kicks and run in my old shoes that are close to, but not yet broken down?

Thanks for any help!

  • oy!!!  painful to read!!!

go back to what worked and get your money back!!!  there is no such thing as overpronation if you run without pain.  your running style might not look like your average olympian, but if you've been running fine then don't change a thing.

these running shoe store guys kill me.

  • you don't run like a doofus, by the way. no pain in neutral shoes = you run correclty for your body type and it should be celebrated.

  • +1 Stick with what works always! The idea that everyone should run exactly the same is just silly. Definitely go back to your old shoes and rock the HIM.
  • Thanks for the thoughts guys.  For the race, at least, I am going to stay with what I have.
