Calling Out Other Dog Owners

Since we don't have children, our dogs (plus tortoises, parrot, horse, and turtle) are our kids.  I have to call out Coach Rich's kids-Sonny and Riley. I have seen pictures of Rich's "kids" at the Tour of California.  So my dogs wanted to post this picture.   Mogul the male Labrador in the back is a 6 Time Division Winner of the Bay2Bay Race in San Diego Bay.  Hula-Gun the female behind my wife is a 2 Time Division Winner.  Slalom our older female Lab retired from this race last year with 4 titles.  So next year Mogul who's 12 years old goes for a Lance tying 7th title.  The Bay2Bay race is any human powered watercraft.  There is a 20 mile and 5 mile option.  There are outrigger clubs, sit-on kayaks, sit-in kayaks, paddleboards, stand up paddleboards, etc.  So there is just about every type of watercraft.  It is a fundraiser for the YMCA and you can see that the weather cooperated pretty well.

Our kayak is a Cobra Triple is a sit-on top kayak but a tug.  It is very steady because it is so wide, but it is a beast to paddle.  Add to that 200 pounds of dog moving around, it makes for a good workout.  Any other dog owners want to brag about their "kids"???

  • That's awesome! I've swam with the Boyz a few times. Fun stuff!
  • Great Photo - so wondering how do you keep the Labs out of the water. I've had Labs in the past, and all they wanted to do was swim around water! Still think there must be someway to get them to help paddle....
  • You will see a leash on the younger one. We do go bird hunting with them and when they do see a seagull, we have to tell them no. A few years ago, one of them did go swimming, but that Cobra Triple is wide enough we hauled 100 pounds of wet dog into the kayak without tipping. After the race, we went to a dog beach on Coronado and then they could get into the water all they wanted.
