Marathon Training (Sept 18 '11 - Race)

Hi team EN,

Just coming through the otherside of completing Challenge Cairns about a week and half ago.

In the following week, suffering from 'Post Ironman Syndrome' I decided to enter a marathon, Sydney Marathon to be completed on Sunday, 18 September '11.

A few questions regarding this:

a) What triathlon related plan should I change my training to? Outseason, short course etc.

b) How many times per week should I be running if I want to keep 1-2 x swims and 1-2 x cycles per week.

c) How many weeks lead up should I apply for this race.

My current thoughts are, considering I completed an IM 10 days ago, this week introduce 2 x swims, next week introduce 2 x cycling and the following week slowly begin running. This should give me 9-11 weeks of training leading up to the marathon - In the past I've only ever done an 8 week lead up or so, so I'm hoping I should be well prepared.

I have downloaded 'EN marathon run hack' to assist with guiding me, but I would like the specific type training program as per training for IM - I'm used to have R n' P telling me excactly what to do without the thought process, so I'm hoping this is somewhat possible this time around (I understand this isn't a running training team).

Please let me know your thoughts team. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Scott Connolly.

  • Scott, since you are in the winter time (right?) I say you take 2-4 weeks off post IM, then start the OS and replace those runs with the marathon hack! Swimming optional on monday / friday in the OS, but not required!
