Using HIM NP to determing IM NP watts conversion
OK, I did 198w (.77) at IMKS VI 1.07 and 2:52
IMLOU is a similar course
What should my NP target be at IM LOU....70% would be 179w....how does that sound?

If that was based on an accurate FTP, I'd say to do a race rehearsal at 180, and see how the run goes.
@Patrick....IMKS has a few steep hills where you grind up and coast down at 35mph.......
Last year did 1.09 (IMLOU was 1.20....holy crap)
I riding better, i think.
Wonder what others at IMKS got for there VI.....I would doubt nobody was really low.
Last year at IMLOU I was AP 149w, NP 172. 6:16 VI 1.20
I gotta believe a VI of 1.10 and NP of approx 178 would be much faster....i think
I do KNOW that IMKS this year was my best executed VI ride I have ever raced for this type of course. I was very anal about my watts up and down hills. I just think the hills there don't allow a really low VI.
1.20 VI at IMLou, or anything other than a crit, for that matter, is off the charts high. No reason why any EN athlete can't ride IMLou <1.07 or 1.06...or lower. It's just not a very hilly course compared to the others out there. </p>
As for estimating IM watts based on HIM watts...you have two months to wrap your head around your FTP and how to apply that to an IM course. Personally, I consider HIM and IM to be different sports and I don't really look for any relationship between the two.
Michael, I did IM KY in 2009 with a VI of 1.07. IMLOU for both 2009 and 2010 had a VI of 1.06. I agree some that on some of those long down hills you are costing quite a bit. And then there were the cars onthe course!
IMLOU last year 1.06
KS, 09 1.10, 2010 1.06 2011 1.05
For some reference I'm 6'2 175 ish, ride a compact and a 12/25. My ftp has been around 280 give or take.
