Adamo saddles - for women?

I've read a few reviews of the Adamo saddle and have spoken to a few users of it.  The men seem to be sold on its virtues, but I've not heard feedback from any women.  One reviewer has suggested that the forward position (perching on the front it would seem) does place additional weight on the upper body as it rests on the bars.  This doesn't seem desirable to me.  Any thoughts ladies would be appreciated.  I would also not be sure which one to get  - I need maximum padding !  (men are not barred from adding any helpful comments here either

Thanks!   Jane

  • I LOVE my ISM Adamo and can not imagine ever going back to anything else on the TT Bike. It did take just a little time to adjust to (like a week) because the position is a bit different, but I L.O.V.E it.

That said, I think it's the kind of saddle that you will either love or hate. For every woman who will scream with joy over her Adamo, you will find another who cries in pain. Ultimately, you have to try it for yourself.
  • Dear Nemo,
Thank you so much for your reply. That's the kind of testimonial I wanted to hear!
May I ask which Adamo saddle you have? There are about half a dozen models including
the "road" model and the "race" model which I am tossing up.
Also, do you find that there is additional weight born on your arms -and if so has this
felt this uncomfortable for you or is it just a matter of getting used to it?
    You're a legend,
    Cheers
    Jane
  • I will echo Nemo's LOVE for the saddle. I've owned the "race" model which actually has less padding than the "Road" model, for the last three years. This last week I finally bought my new P3C, and I purchased the "Road" model to go with my new bike thinking that more padding must be better over 112+mi efforts, despite never having an issue with my old "Race" saddle. Interesting, I found after doing the IMLP camp last week, that the "additional" padding seemed to be a little more uncomfortable than on the "Race" model; however, this may also be due to a slightly different riding position than I had on my old bike with the "race" saddle. Also, I may not be exactly dialed in yet on my new bike despite the muti-hour "fit" session. All-in-all, I would HIGHLY recommend either of these two saddles. The "race" model that I had on my "road bike" that I converted to a hybrid tri-bike, was so comfortable, I never even thought about the saddle. It was like sitting in a chair at home.
  • I also LOVE my adamo. I have the road model (same thought as Tina re: 112+ miles) and I've never looked back. It's super comfortable, and probably the only thing that didn't hurt after IMOO last year was my bum. I've never had the need for chamios cream either it's been that comfy. If you are on the fence you should check out one of the online tri stores (like trisports.com) that rents out loaner saddles to test. Well worth it. I think that most here probably ride either an Adamo or a Cobb. Those are the big two for sure. (Cobb has a take-back guarentee I believe no matter what too).
  • I own the "race" model and I'd actually concur with Tina- more padding doesn't mean better. In fact, I think more on a saddle like the Adamo would be less comfy on a TT bike (I could see how on a road bike it might be good- but it's a totally different position). As for pressure on your arms- that's more a matter of proper fit. If you get the fit dialed in right, you should not have a lot of strain in your neck or arms.

I'd recommend you check out the Adamo video including the saddle setup guide on the TTBikefit site- really helpful stuff:

I've never ridden the race, so I don't have a comment between the two, just know I'm happy with the road version image

  • I also have an adamo race saddle. It did take time to get it positioned right and learn how to position my butt and sit-bones right. Once I got that figured out, I fell in LOVE! I ride a road bike and only once a week so am considering switching to the one with more cushion. No more need to use lube down there for chafing. Very happy with it!

In fact. . . .I have an extra racing one I can sell if anyone wants it! Only ridden a few times. . .
  • I've got the race ISM, too... and it's a keeper. It did take me some time to adjust (I was totally fine on the trainer all winter, but I noticed a difference on the 2d weekend rides) but I was lucky in that Todd at TT Bike Fit sent me a loaner to try out and I had it for a long time. Just bit the bullet and got my very own.
Prior to the Adamo I had Terry's on both my roadie and TT. Never ever had a problem with them ever... never even used chamois butter with them while training for IMFL last year.
  • Cant thank you all enough for your advice. I think I'll take the plunge....I'll try out the "race" model on
the P2.....I'll report back here with results :-)

    Ride safe. Jx
  • actually, I think someone has one .. Beth perhaps. I recall it was sent around to many different ladies last year to try out. Not sure if it's a race model or not, though.
  • Thanks Becky
Unfortunately postage from the US to Australia is costly - so it may not be practical to have it sent here.
But very nice suggestion anyway. Thank you. J

Oh awesome... thanks for sharing! I'm also kind of in-between finding the appropriate saddle myself and have been browsing around for something that could work for me.
