Limiting Characters on the dashboard

I happened to look at the dashboard the other day and I see that someone had posted a full race report there. I thought the purpose of the dashboard was like facebook/twitter type stuff short and easy. It seems more and more people are posting there what should actually be in the forums. If we limit the characters then hopefully we can reduce where we need to look to get what is becoming a volume of information.

One other note there has been a few occasions when people did not even know the forums even existed because of the dashboard. So there does seem to be some confusion with it.

Thanks

Steve

  • I like this idea very much!
  • Sorry RnP, maybe I'm getting old and slow ;-) but I still just don't get the dashboard.

    If a post is worth discussing or getting feedback it should go in the forums so it can be discussed and found later, otherwise the same topics get started over and over. There are now groups for the "i did x workout this morning" and if it is a status update type message twitter and facework work quite and are used very heavily by EN members. A simple #workworks will get the attention of EN members.

    Am I overlooking something the dashboard message feature has to offer?
  • I PM'd two of the people that posted RRs on the dashboard and gently explained the procedure for posting RRs and they'd get more feedback from others etc. if they used the forums.

    Dashboard = disposable statement, link, photo with comments that exists for a limited time. 12-24 hour lifespan

    Forums = forever, searchable, linkable
  • Totally agree with Steve's suggestion.
  • Give'm an inch...they'll type a mile. image I will put this to our official support address for consideration, thanks!
  • I agree this could be a good solution for people posting potentially valuable conversations on the Dashboard. I hate to see that stuff get lost. People often will suggest that certain things go in the forums, or even the wiki, but sometimes it is missed.

  • FWIW, I also tell people to please post questions requiring a detailed answer in the forum vs the dashboard.
