Lake Placid Admin Questions

I'm concerned about dropping my Special Needs Bags off the morning of the race.  My wife and 3 yr old daughter will be with me but I'm not sure I want to put this burden on them so early in the morning.

How late in the morning can SN bags be dropped off?

Should I:

1. Suck it up and walk my bags over to SN drop myself?

2.  Have my wife drop off my SN bags later in the morning? Is that even an option?  Can she drop them off by like 9am?

Bike Pump:

Would like to check my tire pressure the morning of the race BUT do I absolutlely need to bring my bike pump the morning of the race?  Same concerns as above.  I would probably need to then walk back to the hotel and drop it off?

thanks....sorry for the newbie nervousness questions.

Thanks

  • The swim start, BSN, RSN drop areas and transition are all very, very close together. Very easy to drop it all of yourself. I suggest you cooridinate with the team to borrow a pump vs bringing it down. Designate a few peeps to bring pumps for team use, then hand them off over the fence to family members?

  • They have also had bike pumps in the transition area from the bike support group (previously Inside Out sports, now Ironman Sports or whatever they call it) so you will be covered any number of ways.

The bike special needs and run special needs are very close to the swim start so it is easy to check your bike, walk down to drop off special needs and then amble over to the start. There is generally a good size bank of porta-johns by special needs check-in too with shorter lines than you will find in the transition area.
  • Nate,

I just saw this post.  I will be in LP volunteering.  I will be bringing my bike pump down to T1 for those that need it.  We can work out a time to meet race morning at the Friday supper if you like.

  • I volunteered last year and concur that everything is pretty compact (transition, special needs, and the lake start) so its much easier than many other races. There were plenty of volunteers with bike pumps in the morning as well. My hotel is just a block away from T - so if anyone needs to drop stuff off or leave gear - just let me know.
  • @ Pete and Gordon, Thanks for chimming in...sounds like a plan...see you up there..
  • At IMCDA last Sunday, they had 2 tech people in transition with powered air pumps - took care of my tires in about 30 seconds flat....I'd think they'll also be in LP....
