Do you have to delete workouts from 310xt?

I have a garmin 310xt and was wondering if the workouts get stored on the ant+ stick that's in my computer or on the watch?  should I be deleting the workouts from the watch at some point so I don't run out of memory?  i can picture myself running out of space in the middle of a workout or worse yet, an IM.

if you do need to delete, how do you do this?

thanks,- Keith

  • I believe (although I'd have to look it up when I get back upstairs) that you can set up Garmin Connect (or maybe Garmin Training Center) so that when you transfer the data from your Watch to your PC, the workout on the watch is automatically deleted. So it depends on how you have it set up. The default is NOT to delete it. The file is eventually stored on your PC (not on the stick).

Yes you will run out of memory eventually. I delete all the memory before an Ironman just in case. To do so, you do the following:

    Press Mode
    Select History
    Select Delete

From here you have options, select just one workout, all workouts, etc.
  • Nemo is spot on. I let it fill up when i first started using it and lost some data on a longer run.

  • yes, at some point your watch will tell you that the history is about full... at which point you can clear your history on the watch itself. I had to do it recently and I think it gave me the option of keeping the last 30 days.

assuming you transfer workouts to your PC with the ANT stick, you're good. I also save them to training peaks (you hit export, save to a GPX file, then save - I have a file folder in "my documents" called "310xt")... open training peaks, get to the calendar, add a workout, select the type (i.e., run) and you can upload the file.
  • Nothing much to add except to stress that you should do it regularly to avoid losing data. Learned the hard way.
  • You really don't want to be on mile 16 of an Ironman run and get the memory almost full error, TRUST ME on this one!
  •  If your 310 gets close to filling up, you will get a warning in the middle of your workout/race.  Assuming you are able to fiddle with the buttons without crashing/running off the road, etc, you can navigate to "History", "Delete", "Old Activities" and delte everything older than 1 month.

  • I really wish it would just over write old files instead of just stopping.
  • I was wondering how much people can store. It says 17 hours, but I recently forgot to deleter workouts and was up to about 24 hours when I noticed and deleted everything. Something to do with the smart recording? By the way - the new version of the firmware shows how much memory you've used - that's a nice addition.
  • On the ol trusty 305, it just overwrites the oldest ones. Nothing stores over 1 year any way, in my experience.
