FTP Test today

My FTP was 211 before the test.  I haven't tested in a while, so I figured a good way to pace would be hold my original FTP for the first lap and then try and go harder on the second lap.  I averaged 210 on the first then 222 for the second.

Over the last 13 minutes of the second loop, I averaged 230.  Over the last 5, I averaged 237 and 250 over the last two.  The question I have is, did I pace myself too much in the first lap?  Or maybe I had more left to give because I paced myself?  Anyway, my FTP went up to 214, so that's an increase.  I just need to lose about 10 pounds and simultaneously get that number up to around 250.

  • Branan, nice work. Any bump is good, but it does sound like you might have had more in the tank. I have come to the conclusion that the EN fitness testing is an art in itself. The bike is especially that way because it is such a long test (compared to the run).

Are you doing the OS right now? Or HIM training, what?
  • Just started the 12 week HIM plan. Getting ready for Augusta now. You sign up yet?
  • Branan,

I would agree that you probably left a few points on the table, who knows exactly how much.  How was your exertion level.  I assume that you were not at the almost puking or could not go any faster even with a gun to my head stage?

Some more experience with WKO use the charts on long rides to predict the FTP but if you are sticking to the percentages in training this will not help.

It would be good to know what plan you are on and where you are in that plan.  Take the bump and if you are recovering bump it up a point or two moving forward.

  • Haven't yet. I am working through what I want to do next.

If that is the case, I think if you wanted to fudge your numbers up a tad, you could. Maybe give yourself 220 from now through the first RR and see how it feels. I don't think that would be he worst thing. You will just need to listen to your body.

  • That's what I was thinking. I'll use 220 and see how it goes. If I'm suffering too much, I'll bump it back down.
