Will WKO+ on windows work with Device Agent on Mac?

New PM user here.  In the process of getting everything set up and work through the kinks.  My computers are Macs so I set up Parallels and am running XP to get WKO+ set up on main home computer.  Trying to set up my Forerunner 305 to WKO+ and while setting up Device Agent I have the option to set it up as either a Mac based or Windows based system.  I was a little hesitant to even load the Parallel/XP combo on my computer because part of the reason to get a Mac in first place was to avoid Windows.

Ultimately my question is can I load Device Agent as on Mac format and expect it to run with my windows based WKO+?  I may be making this much more complicated than I should and probably should just run both on Windows, but my experience is that Mac OS is much more stable.

Any thoughts?

  • Installing Device Agent on Mac format and expecting Windows based WKO to recognize it sounds very optimistic to me.
I also run parallels with XP on my Mac and am regretting it more and more. It has only confirmed to me that Microsoft makes and inferior product, and inferior operating system, and I'd go so far as to say they may do this on purpose.
I got my Macbook Pro in 2009 and installed parallels and XP for the sole purpose of running WKO and Quicken. Other than that I do not use it for anything.
When I first installed it, XP ran blazingly fast in parallels, almost as fast as Mac programs and as good or better than any native Windows system I'd ever used.
Since then and more recently the Windows system has began to deteriorate.
When running Mac programs, email, Safari etc. the Mac runs as well and as fast as it ever did.
The parallels/ Windows side has followed the familiar death spiral of every Windows PC I've ever owned. Slower and slower boot performance, increased incidence of full lockup, and a general decline in performance. This despite the fact that I don't do anything with it except download workouts and run 1 other program
I suspect the "blue Screen of death" is not far off. As I write this I have been trying unsuccessfully to download some runs into WKO. What used to take a few minutes now takes a half hour sometimes with several restarts.
As soon as there is a better option for WKO, either a Mac version or the Web version gets better, I will ditch parallels and Windows, and Microsoft will never willingly get another dime from me..

Sorry I'm ranting and probably didn't help with your question -- Currently my parallels/XP is locked up and I cant download any of my workouts.

  • I feel the same way Mark.  Decided to run both with Parallels.  Makes me nervous even seeing the Windows icons on my Mac (for the exact reasons you are describing).

Seemed to work last night.  Now I need to spend some time in WKO and figure out how to use that crazy thing.

  • Chris - Here's what I do with my 305:

    1. Download to Garmin Training Center applicaiton on my Mac. Then I export that run (or ride, but I use PowerTap mainly for bike) to a specific folder, like "Documents/Garmin for PC/2011"

    2. Open up Parallels, open WKO+, and open "My Computer" on the PC side (Finder for Windows).

    3. Go to the Drive labeled "home on psf:..."( usually labelled x or y drive) in My Computer, click to my folder, and drag the file which is automatically labeled witht he date on the WKO window. A little window pops up there which allows me to save the file. It is automatically converted into a WKO file which I can read an used immediately. I've got to make sure that "Run" is listed in the pull down menu in that window.

No Device Agent involved. I couldn't figure out how to get it to work easily MAC/Windows, so use this system instead. Take less than 2 minutes for each run.
