Taper Time

Although there is still plenty of work to be done over the next three weeks, isn't so nice to say that we finally made it to  the Taper !!

At 48 yoa  I'm a big advocate of going into an IM well rested and recovered, so I'm looking foward to letting the body, legs those nagging ailments start to heal and recover and decrease some of the constant fatigue I have been living with.

Really honing in the diet to aid in the recovery process and get to the best body comp. as possible.

Time to start training the mind more, devolping those key words and phrases and my "one thing"  for  those difficult times that occur during the race.   Also will be getting all those lists together.

How are all you guys feeling ?  Excited, nervous, ready,  freaked out, numb ?  Let's hear it.

  • After a long week doing lots of sprints at lacrosse camp, my legs are working out their soreness on the bike. I will hopefully FTP test tomorrow with RR on Wed. Legs and hips are really sore, along with left Achilles. Diet needs to focus more- may fire up the lose it app. I just want to sleep, but I'm up in Conway NH and don't want to waste the ride opportunities. Taper starts

  • Still fairly sore from last few days, but mentally feeling great. I'm also interested in making sure I eat well over the next couple weeks. I'm about 4lbs from my goal race weight and wouldnt mind at least dropping one or two...

  • Here is some rambling thoughts....
    I am amazed that we have finally made it to this piont. Thinking back to the beginning of October OS the amount of work is hard to believe. I almost feel that I need to let it all sink in become zen with what is about to happen in the race. I feel strong in all 3 sports right now but I really need to focus on how to put it together on race day by following the 4 keys. Execution, execution....

    I am excited and nervous....a little freaked out at the swim, but also ready to put my head down and swim. I have been kicked and swam over in shorter races and it didn't really bother me. I am 100% a better swimmer now than I was during those races.

    My RR2 didn't go very well. I was initially pretty upset about this but after a few days I have realized that this was a good thing because I learned a lot from the experience. I am new to the IM thing and have limited experience of coming off a bike after 100 plus miles and trying to run. So many factors to consider; heat, cold, nutrition, hydration, pacing. The bottom line was that I went to hard on the bike even though I thought I was staying in my HR zones. I ignored the fact that it was 85-90 degrees outside instead of reacting to those conditions and slowing down...I need to add more "stoopid" to "go stoopid slow"...I need to look myself in the mirror and admit that I'm NOT a 6:15-6:30 bike split guy (yet) and that it will be OK for me to come off the bike at LP at over 7 hours. I want to run people down. I have the fitness and it is SOOO all about execution. I was one fit dude walking along the side of the road during my RR with steam coiming out of my ears...let's hope I got that one out of my system.

  • Taper is my least favorite time of the year. I have moved my Race Sim to this weekend due to logistical challenges, so while my peak volume has dropped I have a few bigger workouts. I don't enjoy tapering, and will keep working until 10 days out...then it's swim only, focused stuff, etc. So pumped!!!
  • My last RR went pretty well. We built a family cabin this year, and the moving in logistics were harder than expected, so my swim has definitely suffered, and so has my bike. Never the less, I think I'm ready. Looking forward to seeing everyone in LP,
  • P.S. Anyone else think it's time for Coach P to change his picture to one that does not include the dunlap and DOES include the new kit?
