Raceday Apollo

A couple of friends have gotten into a discussion about the CTL/ATL/TSB across sports in WKO+.  The premise being that WKO doesn't really have a metric for adding the TSS across disciplines.  I know...we are nerds.  Anyway, then someone mentioned Raceday.  Seems very interesting software.

Who has tried Raceday or has bought it and what do you think?

  • I use both for WKO and RaceDay for different purposes. Just like your friends suggested, RaceDay is better at tracking swim training and including that in the performance charts. RaceDay also can model the effect of workout or series of workouts thus allowing you to use training and racing data to figure out your own effect curve and fine tune your taper.

Basically, I use WKO for detailed analysis of any single workout/race or to compare files, as well as for the power distributions charts (RaceDay can do this, but not as well in my opinion). However all my season planning, workout planning/tracking, test tracking, and PMC type stuff is done in RaceDay.

You can sign up for a free trial of RaceDay if you want to check it out. However, to really use it and understand it I think you need to read both of Dr. Skiba's books first as well. They are a short and quick read and do a god job explaining the software amoung other things.

  • I'm loving Raceday Apollo. WKO+ was too power geeky for my current interest in power data. Super user friendly. You can actually get pretty far watching Skiba's videos -- but understand that Skiba and Coggin use entirely different terminology sets.

    Bonus prize: mac compatible.
  • how much costee?
  • $125...basically same as WKO
  • RaceDay is really designed to set up your own taper by doing fits to your training data. That means LOTS of testing if you are going to use it as intended....which of course you do not have to!

For the bike-only portion, Golden Cheetah is free, uses the same metrics, and is in many ways superior. For all three tracking on the Mac, Apollo is a reasonable alternative, but it is NOT "WKO for the Mac". Take advantage of the free trial before buying.
