Seriously amazing. I think you had it right the first time, she came in 5th overall. The link you provided goes to a report on the 2010 Challenge Roth, not the 2011. Her marathon run time was just under 4 minutes longer than the mens winner, Andreas Raelart, who set a new world record men's IM distance time that same day. Holy Crap!
No other female has a chance at Kona if Chrissie can toe the line. None. Period.
Mirinda's win at Kona was kind of like the two seasons the Houston Rockets won the NBA title sandwiched between 6 Chicago Bulls' titles. They didn't win because they were the best per se. The Rockets won because Michael Jordan decided to play minor league baseball for two years... otherwise the Bulls would have won 8 in a row.
Mirinda can run with Chrissie but can't bike with her. Dibens can bike with Chrissie but cant run with her. Chrissie is as near perfect a triathlete as can be imagined.
No doubt, Chrissie is a machine. But I don't think she's unbeatable, but I really believe she's raising the bar for women and she's not gonna make it easy. There are newcomers in the ranks who see they have to up the game, and some day (but not likely this year) someone is going to beat Chrissie. Did you see the Vineman 70.3 performance of Rollinson? Yikes, she killed that run.
There was a time when Paula was unbeatable, and there was a time Natasha was unbeatable, now it's Chrissie's turn. I love how these ladies totally change what we expect from women in the sport!
@Nemo, I saw Rollinson in Muncie and she was crushing the run and looked like she was out for a jog. I beleive she had the 3rd fastest run split of the day male or female in that race.
Chrissie may appear unbeatable right now, but give it time and someone will come along that will give her a run for the money. I do think that one person can beat her right now, her. Setting new world records race after race and beating her competition by 20+ minutes has to have some effect on her, hopefully she doesn't overdue it and when she does have to race someone she can.
As to her not getting beat in Kona you never know. I agree with Nemo on the unbeatable comment. I believe it was 1995 when Paula melted down in Kona and that was after 7 wins (?) there and 4 in a row. Nobody is untouchable in an IM with heat like that, but Chrissie is a more that solid bet for sure.
The only way Chrissie loses an HIM or IM is if she DNS or DNF. Seriously, Nemo, anything else is wishful thinking. On top of her bike and run, she was a collegiate swimmer. Add to that her scary will to win, and the M Jordan comment is right on. Will someone ever beat her? Only Mother Time, just like the other two Queens you mention.
