Summer National Senior Games Triathlon
went to Houston summer senior games from nc for ag 65-69. had flue 5 weeks prior but was good enough before that to get two firsts in the white lake II half and sprint for my age group.
tried no socks or hr monitor and it cut down my time. near the end on bike i passed a guy in blue (saw 51 on his calf, not an issue). in t-2 he got out before me. on last mile of sprint run i could have passed him but held back since i had 5 swims soon....turns out he was in my age group and got 3rd place metal and i got a 4th place ribbon. not sure what i learned from this.

One thing to learn, maybe, is ... if you're racing (especially if you traveled to the race, and if it's a big competition): RACE.
Had a similar situation this past weekend at Chelanman 70.3. I had past a guy on the bike who was wearing calf sleeves covering up his age marking. With a mile and half to go on the run he comes up on my side and starts to pass, gets a few strides in front of me and I can't read his number but he looked younger than 45. I had enough in me to crank it up a little so I over took him until the finishing chute. He sprinted past me with 20 feet to go and let him thinking that he wasn't in my AG. Turns out he was 46 and got 5th I got 6th by 5 seconds. If the race officials are goin to require age on the calf then it should be required to be legible. I agree with Al I should have raced that last 20 feet, but he should have raced with the same rules I raced with.
