IMLP RR - 10:11:04 - work works!

Here is a link to my ST RR:

Sorry to post it as a link [I hate that] but I can't post pics here any longer for some reason I have not figured out.  Special thanks to all of you for the support this weekend and throught the years.  It was an awesome weekend in LP.  It is CRAZY how many EN people are around these days and how supportive everyone is.

Also, FWIW I ran much better than that hear chart would have permitted as it was a high of 91 and my VDOT is 56.  I think P crushed it as well.  Not sure what that means but something to think about.

  • Congrats on a great race. Big PR, and "within sight" of KQ. Overall awesome for you. Great job, man!!
  • Great race, great report - well done.

Have to admit though that I'm kind of shocked to discover you have a last name.

  • Great race and great job getting it done.

And there is nothing like a good burp sometimes

  • Chris, congratulations on a great race!
  • Chris:

Congrats on a great race! Man! 10:10 and you didn't qualify! That tells you how freakin' competitive our AG is... Maybe I'll qualify when I'm 80.
  • Awesome job Chris! Sounds like it's not the first time you've suffered in the heat which I'd guess helped you beat the heat chart.
  • Nice work Chris. You were looking really strong on the run.

Great job on putting up a solid time without a wetsuit. FWIW, I had a wetsuit on and the swim was still scary.
  • Awesome job Chris. I had no idea it got that hot, and I'm kind of glad no one told me. You looked really strong on the run, so not surprised you finished as high as you did. Congratulations on a great race!
  • Awesome. Congrats on a great day.
  • Great RR and race Chris!

  • What a great day and especially that run split.  Watching "big" guys like you and Patrick run that fast is inspiring for the rest of us.

...FWIW I ran much better than that hear chart would have permitted as it was a high of 91 and my VDOT is 56.  I think P crushed it as well.  Not sure what that means but something to think about...

Two thoughts: the heat chart curves show that the faster one is, the less decremental effect heat has on a % basis. Second, I wasn't there, but the weather almanac says the high temp that day was 77, compared to 83 and 87 the two days before.

  • OK, now I've read your report. Apart from the glaring absence of a subject in most of the sentences (did you skip 5th grade  and miss that nasty English teacher?), you really get the whole day across superbly.

You are now officially a Bubble Boy. It's up to you to decide if you're ready to keep riding it up, but that bubble WILL carry you to Kona sooner rather than later. I loved your picture of the sheet Marc Roy lays out at the Hawaii sign-up; the roll down is always my favorite entertainment of the whole weekend.

You expressed it all when you said: 'By the time I got a bit out on river road on the second loop my quads were totally blown. Felt like there was no way I could run any more. My plan was just to do it anyway. Kinda liked the sound of it at the time “there was no way I could run another step but I just said F it and did so anyway” '

    You are an Ironman Machine.

  • Great race, Chris...and so close! I can't believe that not a single slot rolled down. I'm taking the same bike to Regensburg...hope I can push it as well as you do. Congrats again!
  •  It never got nearly that hot.  Someone had sent me the almanac data for Lake Placid FLORIDA and I did not look at it that close.  I thought it still felt pretty hot out there, expeically that nasty part of river road near the barns where there is no shade at all.

  • great race! Incredible watts on the bike and very good pacing on the run. Funny, I got lucky in Texas as someone above me also wore a wetsuit and I got the last slot. Two slots a way is kind of a bummer, but looks like you had a pretty fantastic race regardless.
  • Great race for you, especially given your swim/lack of tight swim gear. You looked strong coming back in, despite your "lack of cheer". Congrats on taking a huge step forward.
  • Wow! Great race! Great performance. Love this line: 'By the time I got a bit out on river road on the second loop my quads were totally blown. Felt like there was no way I could run any more. My plan was just to do it anyway. Kinda liked the sound of it at the time “there was no way I could run another step but I just said F it and did so anyway” '
  • Chris,

You were great out there. And from a spectators point of view, while the Air temp was "mild" 78-82 the strong sun was definitely beating down and making it feel hotter than it was.

Congrats on putting together a superb race!
  • As the subject say's true enough. G watched you work hard out there on Sun. So close to PM and so close to Kona. In all a job well exacuted, see you in Lake George !
  • Chris, great to meet you in lP...you were looking really smooth on the run..
  • Chris - congratulations on a great race!  I'm very happy for you.  Really enjoyed reading your race report as well and picked up on that nice recovery at mile 95.  Way to save your day.  See you out there, D

  • Chris, you were everywhere on race day. Super impressed in your third attempt at the distance. As Al noted, Kona is a decision for you now, not a dream. That's a nice place to be for sure. That's for keeping the pressure on me ALL DAY.
  • Great race performance! Congrats on a very impressive time.
  • Solid performance out there and so close to the pointy end.... Awesome job Chris!
  • Very detailed and informative report. Going to do LP in 2013. Thanks for posting it.

  • Chris,
Very impressive race. Love the report. Planning on doing LP in 2013 and thinking your drink too much on Thursday plan at the pub is the way to go.
  • Chris G- I have read your RR 3 times now and LOVE it each time. I have had the pleasure of training with you ( virtually) for over 3 years now. When we raced together in 08 in the monsoon I KNEW you had the GOODS! Without a doubt. I am so proud of you. I love your refreshing attitude about training, your hard work, your sense of humor and mostly your love of your family and friends. You are a class act and I am honored to know you.
  • Chris, Congratulations on a strong race! I totally enjoyed the race report, thanks for taking the time to tell the tale. 3X on the comments of Al and Patrick that “Kona is a decision for you now, not a dream.” Keep enjoying the journey!
  • Chris,

Great race and report.  As stated you are now on the edge.  What are you going to do to break through, perhaps get down to a Macca 175?  It was great to meet you in person and hang at LP pub.
