Post-IM recovery week training plan?

Is there a specific plan that we should load up / follow for the week following an IM, or just use the recovery guidance in the wiki?

  • I personally don't do anything for the week following an IM. The last thing I want to be thinking about is loading up a plan.

  • Download this resource from the Wiki. It has a 4 week plan in it to transition out of an IM.

  • There's another page in the wiki which has links to some podcasts on post IM recovery. Also, there's a note there about actually changing your training plan on the training plan change page to get a TWO week recovery training plan.

Last year, the plan was three weeks, and that has always seemed too long to me. This year, the two week plan worked just fine for me. I'm usually raring to go again in about 10 days. There's an old rule of thumb in triathlon that your transition/recovery will need to be as long in days as your race was in hours. I've found it's more like T=n-1, where T= the days of recovery, and n= the length of time in hours I actually "race". So if I walk some of the marathon, that doesn't count in the race time. That's just my own little personal formula, YMMV.
