Joule download problem

Ok. I finally broke down and got a Joule. It downloads fine into PowerAgent on Mac but all my rides say 0:00 when I download to TrainingPeaks. I spent a fraction amount of time researching and troubleshooting. Sorry, I'm being lazy and just hoping this is something that others have seen so I can get the quick answer.

Also, might be coincidence (or new PowerAgent sw version) but right around the time I got the Joule PA no longer recognizes my YLC. I reinstalled the USB drivers but no luck.

Thanks!!

Chris

  • Why not just use TP Device Agent and skip PA? If you are using the latest Mac software Lion, there may be issues, but otherwise, it should work without a problem.

  • Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I am using TP DA. What I'm saying is that it downloads my ride data fine using PA on Mac (I'm not using Lion). However, when I use TP DA to download my ride data it gives me 0:00 ride time and nothing is in the file. Obviously this tells me that it's apparently a TP problem since it works fine when downloading in PA. If I download the ride data using PA (Mac), save the csv file and then port it over the TP it works fine but obviously I don't want to do a multi-step process like that. Normally I don't use PA at all but just wanted to demonstrate that it works in order to isolate the problem.

    Make sense?

    Thanks, Chris
  • I'm not suggesting this as a solution ... but here's what I do cause I'm too lazy to diagnose the problems to find an easier route:

I download files from my Garmin (run) and Joule (bike) into the respective Mac programs Garmin TC and PowerAgent. I "export" the files to designated folders. In Parallels, I then drag/drop them into WKO+.

Time wise, the downloading into the computer has to be done, no matter what method is used. The exports each take less than 15 seconds (I just accept the default name, which contains the date), and the drag and drop takes about the same time each. I can them play with the files either on the Mac, or in WKO+

I couldn't get Device Agent (in Parallels) to work with my Joule either, but I haven't tried in the last six months since what I'm doing has become a breezy routine.

  •  Chris:

What is the "Time between rides" set to?

  • Interesting Chris, I'm having trouble with my YLC computer doing the same thing. Downloads 8K records but everthing is 0:00:00 I looked at the csv file and I think the time/date column is jacked up. I'm still working through the issues.

     Chris:

What is the "Time between rides" set to?

I just checked and "Max time between rides" was set to 1min. Funny thing is that I keep changing it to 90min and PA keeps changing it back to 1min. However, that's a PA setting and not a Joule setting and the Joule works fine in PA anyway. That setting just forces you to merge multiple files after downloading in PA when your stopping time is >1min (or whatever the setting is), right?

There's something called "Default ride end time" (a Joule setting) which I can't seem to figure out what the hell it means. It's set to 90min currently.

I realize I can do what Al suggests but would obviously prefer to eliminate PA from the equation.

  • Hmmm. I used to have same problem. Saris customer service told me to set max time between rides to some value (I hadnt set it at all). I also make sure I manually save after each ride and also copy the bin file to my computer before downloading. I haven't had the problem since.

So I'm confused. Where are you setting 'max time between rides'? The only place I know you can set that is in PA but PA isn't a problem for me. It's either on the Joule or in TP.

    Thanks, Chris

  • Maybe I'm confusing max time between rides and end ride time. I have end ride time set to 60 min. If yours is set to 90, that should be fine. I'd email Eric Albers (ealbers@saris.com) and ask for his help. He seems to have solved my issues.
  • Menu>Sedtup Joule>Memory>End Ride Time. I have mine @ 30 minutes. I assume that means the Joule auto-saves the ride after 30 minutes of no wheel motion. If I try to download to the computer within that 30 minute window, funny things sometimes happen to the date and save functions, even if I have pressed "Stop and Save" (sounds like a discount store? or an old Unlimited Hydro?) at the end of the ride.

  • @Al - Unlimited hydro? Now that brings back some childhood memories on Lake Washington watching the roostertails of Miss Bardahl, Miss Thriftway and all the rest skittering across the water seemingly three quarters out of control.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but Al started it.
