Meet the Training Campers
Hey folks
so, this is the end of my first full year of EN, I am a 46 year old, now divorced father of 3 girls (12, 10 & 10) yes fraternal twins.
i had been a lethergic suburbanite and found ironman and eventually Team EN as my way of picking myself up off the floor after having my teeth kicked in by my now ex-wife. I did IMAZ last year (just under 14 hrs) , I am doing IMKY this year and had such a great time with the people i met through team EN last year at AZ that i anted up for an IM Foundation slot this year.
Looking forward to learning alot from the the 2 WSms that will be at the Aspen Camp and of course from my fellow campers of all abilities.
on a side note, as in ironman training, life takes you down strange places you never think you would go, my ex and i recently re-kindled a pretty serious friendship and have had interesting discussions about the future. The only things i focus on are my kids and the self development tools I have learned through team EN that apply to life as much as they do Triathlon.

I've been skiing the Aspen Mtns since 1968, and spending time in the summer there since age 13, so I regard it as much home as anywhere. I've been prepping for IMs at the house my sister and I share since IM WI 2005. Two + weeks of trying to live high and train a little lower. But mainly it's the awesome scenery and open spaces which have drawn me back all this time.
-started running in 2003 with Team in Training for a half marathon to see what my body could do. Before starting that training, I never ran more than 1/4 mile in my life. I was always the short fat last-chosen for the team kid in school.
-my first tri in 2004, an Olympic in Maui. 2nd from last out of the water, even tho I was in the 2nd wave.
-first HIM in 2005, Big Kahuna in Santa Cruz CA.
-first IM in 2006, IMFL in PCB, FL.
-joined EN in April 2008 with my first power meter, the old Ergomo. Raced IMCDA just a few months later, where I met my first EN folks face-to-face. Been in da haus ever since.
IMAZ2011 will be my 6th IM start, and hopefully my 5th finish (DNF IMCDA09 with hypothermia).
Single. Never been married. No kids. Born and raised Northern Californian (still consider that my home). Moved to Dallas TX a little over 9 years ago. I didn't do any of this crazy s/b/r stuff before moving here.
Going on 14 years with AT&T (various divisions and positions, always in the wireless/mobility world).
BS in Marketing (haven't ever used it), MBA too; both from University of the Pacific in Stockton CA.
I love travelling the world, walks on the beach and BEER.
Is that enough? Too much?
This is my 3rd year of triathlons, but my first year at the Ironman level. I have been with EN since April 2011. I competed in IM Cda in June. I had high hopes of beating 12 hours and knew that it would take a perfect day to do it. Well, I didn't have a perfect day but I did beat my goal with a 11:57:45. This weekend I am competing in Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens where I hope to finish in 5:10 (1:39 run) which would be a 12 minute PR.
Al Truscott is the reason I am a part of EN, he is the one that extended the invitation after chance meeting on a local bike ride and then meeting him at a local marathon expo.
I am looking forward to meeting the group in September, and getting in some great rides.
I'm Bev Richardson. I live in Charlottesville, Virginia, am not married, and work as a software/systems engineer for the defense department. I've been running since I was a teen, and generally been a lover of outdoor adventures (backpacking, skiing, etc.) forever, so I like the tri lifestyle. I started running marathons after graduation from college with the "UsaFit" training program in Austin, Tx. I did 6 marathons including Austin (twice), Richmond, NYC, Boston, and Charlottesville. In my mid 20's I got injured from running and started doing tris. I did my first tris on a mountain bike, and then on a borrowed road bike with shifters on the down tube. Finally bought my first road bike with a tax refund and have loved biking ever since. Having the Blue Ridge Parkway in my back yard doesn't hurt. I got burned out on tris after a few years (too much lifestyle discipline required to train in 3 sports for a youngster). I got busy with work and getting a masters degree, gained a few pounds, and in my early 30's really missed being the fast racer I used to be.
I did a local tri in 2007 and have been hooked ever since. I did my 1st IM in 2009 in Wilmington, N.C. Beach 2 Battleship (great race). My 2nd was 2010 IM Louisville (hot!). 3rd I just finished was IMUSA. I like chasing goals, whether they are time goals or qualification for fun championships. I did the USAT Long Course World Championship in Germany last summer before IMLou. This year I've got a spot at 70.3 in Las Vegas. Hopefully someday I'll get a spot in Kona! My goal for this fall is to have fun, and also try to break the 5 hour barrier at the Beach 2 Battleship Half on 10/29, so I'm up for some good Aspen altitude training. Look forward to meeting you all!

I have been doing triathlons for 3 years, with my first HIM one year ago. My background is as a college springboard diver, but I never really learned to swim until about 2 years ago. I could swim great from the bottom of a 16 foot diving tank to the edge of the pool, but that was about it. So, becoming comfortable and confident in the water has been a major success for me. I train on my own for the most part, try to hook up with friends for rides and runs when I can. Being on the EN team has been such an important part of me making it to the start and finish line at IMCDA.
I live in the Denver area, and I am out of vacation time with my IM travels this year. So, I will only be at the camp for a few days. I love Colorado and training in the Colorado mountains. Hoping to continue to get stronger on the bike. I am married with two teenage sons (16 and 14) who think the mountains are for snowboarding only. I am a pediatrician in my other life and have the best job in the world.
Looking forward to seeing all of you!
