Timberman Race Plan

I was gonna post what I plan to do for Timberman, have gears figured out and run pace figured. Then a lot of crap happened and I think I am only shooting for two things.

First finish the race feeling good so I can then use the next 12 weeks or so for IMAZ

Second and most important to hit 70 on the bike down the big hill, gonna have to really relax and let her fly. Machine was tested last night it was feeling good and I am ready to hit it.

Good luck to all doing Timberman.

  • Hey Steve,

Looks like we have similar plans. I'm also doing IMAZ and Timberman is more of a fun race than anything else. Are you really saying you want to hit 70mph on the bike?

  • Yep, last year in the rain I hit 67, tap the brakes a bit  so this year no chickening out. Test run on Old Route 1 a few weeks ago hit 64.6 but there was traffic

Its either gonna be a blast or hurt like hell

  • Never hit anything above 45. 70 seems really really fast.

  • It is, and this is from a guy who drives the speed limit all the time.

  • Good luck, Steve! Sounds like a great plan. 70 or bust!!!
  • Steve, your plan sounds best given that you still have AZ in the view finder from a training perspective and since there is zero downhills there. image Be safe, lett'er fly and focus on keeping your steady pace on the run so you crush it!
  • Steve,

I do like the second goal as well.  Makes me think I should have one like that for Lake Placid next year.

    Gordon

  • So - did you hit 70?
  • no reports of a sonic boom from Laconia area...so unsure... image
  • Sadly I did not as someone was crashed at the bottom of my hill, and they wanted us to slow down, only got to 60 before I had to start braking

Is nice to hear a Holy Crap when I zip by people

  • 60 is still damn fast - glad you made it through the race unscathed
  • Steve, I will be anxious to hear if you reach 70 mph. The top speed I have ever hit on my bike is 67 mph - that was in Maine, traveling down streets that I know with even my eyes closed. I have done Timberman twice already and found it hard to get anywhere near that fast just with people, traffic, ect. Do you mean the hill you come down when returning to the park?
  • 70 on the bike?? first time I ever broke 50 was on that hill, but I don't see 70 happening, not even from JW the king of Downhill KOMs..

reminder, there is a sharp right hand turn just after the bottom of the hill, just sayin..
