Need Advice ASAP
Hey all,
Was scheduled to do my RR #2 today for IMWI. Feelin great, was 55 miles into my ride when a nasty thunderstorm hit. Now with my fear of lightening, I went into a building for cover and ended up being there for over an hr before I had someone come get me....thunderstorms were not letting up, and I was freezing.
So, only 55 miles today (while hilly, not sufficient for a RR). What do I do from here? Try again tomorrow? (With cashed legs, not sure if Ill be able to get through it tomorrow!) Do something different tomorrow? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe do the typical IM plan Sunday ride and get in another three hours plus an hour run.
I agree with Bob and Jennifer. Don't worry. You've put in the training. The weather is forecasted to be sunny tomorrow in Chicago, so go out for a 3 hour ride, practice your race nutrutian. But make sure you do the 60 minute brick run and practice your EZ pace + 30".
I am going to take a different point of veiw on this. I read a post, I believe from coach rich (June '11) that talked about the importance of the RR 2. His words were DO.NOT.MISS.THIS! It is the most important ride of the training year.
If the weather is going to be good tomorrow, what is the harm in going out and getting it in tomorrow. Your aren't doing the RR's on rested legs anyways, so what is the difference if you rode 55 miles at 78 IF today or not.
Just a different opinon to chew on. Jennifer and Bob have been in the haus longer than I, so I don't doubt they know the system better. But do what feels right for you.
Lauren. I feel your pain. I too was out there today in the Chicago area. I holed up under a tree and wondered what to do. I waited it out and then finished. In terms of what to do. I don't know? If it was me I would rest tomorrow and then take Monday off and do it Monday.
If RR# 1 had significant issues and you have not done a IM before, how is your confidence level on your ability to execute your plan for bike pace, hydration and nutrition??? If you are confident you can execute your plan – again skip the added effort. BUT if for whatever set of reason(s) you are NOT confident you can execute your plan, then I would suggest get back on the bike tomorrow and take another shot. I would cut the ride to 70-80 miles given the TSS from today. Then hit the run.
What MattS said. The RR is probably your easiest ride of your training plan. Doing it on Sunday vs Saturday, even after getting "a" ride on Saturday isn't a big deal, especially 3wks out.
